Guest Blogger: 5 Beauty Products You Need in 2017

For this article, we bring you the wisdom of local lifestyle, food and beauty blogger Katie Woo as she shares her beauty must haves for this year.

5 Beauty Products You Really Need in 2017

Now, I’m not trying to say you need every single item on this list, but all these products will make your life a little bit easier. I constantly talk about these products to friends and family and I thought I would give you my opinion on what beauty products you need this year!

Whether you are a big make-up hoarder, writing a shopping list of beauty must-haves every month (yes, I’m guilty of that. Forever on the lookout to pamper my skin). OR you don’t count beauty products as monthly investment, I think that you should have at least one of these items in your makeup bag at some point this year.

1. Eyebrow/Eyelash Brush & Comb

Something I take for granted but it is something I will use every day without fail – even on the no makeup days. My brows will always need a gentle brush through to make them look more presentable. Not only is this brush good for shaping your brows but also brushing out excess colour you might have put on your brows.

After I have filled my brows out with an eyebrow pencil or gel I gently brush them through to take out some of the intense colour, for a more natural look. With eyelashes it helps to get rid of any spider lashes. Whatever your mascara you should always have a brush like this to hand, to get rid of any clumps and to help the lashes individually spread.

Recommendations: Real Techniques Eyelash and Eyebrow Groomer, Boots Brow Brush and Comb, Urban Decay Brush E217 - Essential Eye Tool.

2. Eye Cream

The eye area is the most sensitive area on the face. We can use a lot of makeup products under and on the eyes but we need to make sure we pamper the delicate skin first. Using the right intense cream or serum under your eyes gives it the hydration is needs. Preferably, if you have time, you should use a cream on your eyes in the morning and at night. Your eyes need a lot of hydration to get rid of those dark circles.

This is why is it something I really notice when I haven’t used an eye cream, even just for a day. Eye creams or serums definitely make you feel more awake!
Recommendations: Keihl’s Avocado Eye Cream, Rodial Dragonsblood Eye Gel, Indeed Labs Eysilix Instant Eye Rescue, Charlotte Tilbury Magic Eye Rescue.

3. Makeup Sponge

A pure lifesaver. Rather than using your fingers to blend, which I think isn’t the best thing to do as our hands may not be 100% clean and sometimes using a brush can take a little longer to blend. With a round sponge, it takes less than a minute to blend in your makeup flawlessly.

The fact that you can wet these sponges so they can make blending in your makeup easier is a dream. Especially when you are focusing on those areas around the edge of your face, nose or on your neck. Just gently patting in the makeup with a sponge is less harsh on your skin.

Recommendations: Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, Beautyblender, Dior Backstage Blender Fluid foundation sponge.

4. Lip Liner

Never something I thought I would really need but really miss when I run out. Since using a lip liner every time I wear lipstick, I really notice the difference. It lasts so much longer! If you are a beginner to the world of lining your lips go for a more natural lip liner first. I have been using Charlotte Tilbury’s lip liner in Pillow Talk, which is the perfect natural lip colour to enhance the size of your lips. Remember, just outline your lips, we don’t have to make our lips look bigger or try new contouring tricks. Lip liners just help to set your lipstick better.

AND remember to fill in your whole lip with the lip liner, whatever the colour of lipstick you are using; you don’t want to see a defined difference in colour between the inner and outer edges of your lips.

Recommendations: Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat (Beginner shade: Pillow Talk), Kiko Smart Fusion Lip Pencil, MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil, NYX Professional Makeup Slide on Lip Pencil.

5. Eyeshadow Stick/Crayon

I know some of us can’t be bothered to apply eyeshadow all the time, especially every day before work. I think a product like an eyeshadow crayon/stick is so useful! Not only do you not need a brush to apply it but you can use it on the go. If you don’t usually wear eyeshadow in the day but are going out for drinks after work and want to spruce yourself up then take this in your bag – rather than taking an eyeshadow palette. Who doesn’t love portable, on-the-go makeup? This is what we all need!

Recommendations: Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour, Rimmel London Scandaleyes Shadow Stick, NARS Velvet Shadow Stick, Jouer Cosmetics Creme Eye Shadow Crayon.
