Top Takeaways from Bath Digital Festival 2017
We attended three events on the Wednesday of Bath Digital Festival which gave us a fantastic opportunity to visit some exciting venues in Bath, brush up and further our knowledge on subjects close to our hearts. Wednesday’s theme was all about ‘Digital Working’ and here’s what we learned.
This Wednesday (18th October) we took to the streets of Bath to join in with Bath Digital Festival 2017. A week-long series of events covering all things digital. You can see our Twitter coverage of the day here.
To jump straight to a particular section of this article, we’ve broke it down in to the three events we attended:
- Why Your Business Needs a Blog
- Less is More: Lean Content Marketing for Business
- Getting Insight from Google Analytics
Why Your Business Needs a Blog – Sal’s Kitchen
We listened to Bath-blogger Sally Godfrey talk all about blogging and why it’s a fantastic weapon to have in your arsenal when it comes to digital marketing, especially for small businesses. If you have the time to sit down and write your blog posts yourself, it’s a fantastically cost-effective and can benefit your business in many ways; Blogs allow you to tell your story company’s story, build relationships with potential customers by answering questions and show off your brand’s personality. The SEO benefits are undeniable, it helps out your Social Media Strategy and gives a view in to your shop window. If you remember the ‘social’ in social media you can earn favours with other companies and blogs also help you establish yourself as experts. In short; start a blog.
Less is More: Lean Content Marketing for Business – HarveyDavid
Jo from Bristol-based agency HarveyDavid urged a room full of digital marketers and business owners the opportunity to stop tapping away on their devices and engage with the talk. We talked through how to keep your digital marketing strategy lean, focusing on doing fewer, higher-quality posts to your blog and social, rather than posting for posts’ sake. Imagine the internet as a tray of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, it’s exciting and tempting, but at the same time overwhelming and too much will make you sick. In a world of doughnuts, try and make your content broccoli. Simple, no frills and good for you.
Getting Insight from Google Analytics – SearchStar
The heaviest event we attended was on Google Analytics. We use GA to montior how our website is performing, how many visitors we get, which pages are the most popular, etc. This event, presented by the very knoweldgeable Jon from the agency SearchStar, went deeper in to how you get get insights from more specific questions. You need to remember that data works for YOU. You need to decide what data you need to be tracking and find the ways GA can display that information. This will leave you better informed and will cut through all the data that doesn't inform your KPIs.
So there you have it. Those are the main bits of information we took from our visit to Bath Digital Festival 2017. Expect to see lots of creative content ideas from us at Total in the near future, and if you have any digital marketing questions you'd like to ask, feel free to get in touch!
