Bath’s Only Michelin Star Restaurant Wins Again

The Olive Tree remains Bath’s only MICHELIN star restaurant, after the latest MICHELIN guide announcement on Tuesday this week. Just one day after Head Chef Chris Cleghorn was named Best Chef at The Crumbs Awards 2019.

The guidelines for MICHELIN are not divulged, but it is clear that as a result of these consistent high standards, the 2020 guide announcement on the 7th October revealed that they have retained the star after first winning it in October 2018.

Chris said: “The team and I are thrilled to have maintained our MICHELIN star for another year. It is all down to a collective attitude in the restaurant that is bursting with hard work and determination. I have lots of tweaks and plans for the coming year, but I am keeping these ideas close to my chest until they are ready for our guests to experience. 2019 has been an incredible year, and we are all excited about 2020.”

Owner Laurence Beere says: “Chris has worked exceptionally hard since joining the Olive Tree Restaurant in 2013. It is fantastic news that we have maintained the MICHELIN star and we are all looking forward to what he has in store for our diners next year.”

This isn’t the only achievement that the Olive Tree have made this week - on the 6th October at The Old Vic in Bristol, Chris won ‘Best Chef’ at the Crumbs Awards 2019.

The Crumbs Awards celebrate the best businesses and individuals that make up the foodie scene across Bath, Bristol and the surrounding areas.

The Crumbs Awards judges commented that “Chris’ flair and knowledge of flavours means he creates original contemporary dishes from classical ideas. Also impressively keen to help the next generation of chefs.”

Head Chef Chris Cleghorn said: “Being nominated for any award is an honour, and as Crumbs celebrates the best in our area it is an honour to be recognised. I was up against 9 other fantastic chefs and I hadn’t expected to win – I didn’t even prepare a speech. It was a fantastic evening and the award will be on display in the restaurant.”
