Cosiest Pubs in and around Bath
So rich is the choice of cosy pubs, perfect for these cooler months, in and around the city of Bath, we have struggled to keep the list to a top ten. Our criteria? Cosy corners, stylish interiors, delicious menus, and fine wines and if there’s an open fire we are doubly happy.
It’s a tough gig but we’ve tried all these fine establishments on your behalf and whittled it down to these magnificent 10 hostelries.
1. The White Hart, Ford
A Cotswold gem, near Castle Combe with boutique rooms and excellent service. If you love to walk the pub sits on several beautiful country walks. An out of town beauty.
2. Talbot Inn, Mells
A traditional coaching inn offering ‘great food in a classic pub environment’. A 20 minute drive from central Bath is recommended for the perfect pub. It’s where the trendy set hang out.
3. King William, Bath
This centrally located pub will really take you back in time and with a 150 year legacy its kept the essence of a Victorian boozer. Its little but with a big heart and has an award-winning foodie reputation. Small but perfectly formed.
4. Sign of The Angel, Lacock
This 15th century inn is another award-winning restaurant with all the cosy pub feels, ticking all the Instagram boxes with open fires, and comfy corners.
5. The Archangel, Frome
Another coaching inn, this time in trendy Frome, beautifully restored with all the cosy pub appeal. Grab a coffee in one of several quirky rooms, two of which have fires lit, with large sofas and mood lighting or grab food in their floating glass restaurant.
6. The Redan Inn, Chilcompton
Boutique hotel, pub and restaurant outside Bath in Chilcompton offering wood burner, games and local ales. Newly refurbished with all the old school tucked away secret appeal.
7. Marlborough Tavern, Bath
With a celebrated Sunday roast and what our spies tell us is the best Bloody Mary on the block, this Bath Pub Company public house is a stone’s throw from the Royal Crescent. With big tables and fabulous food it’s a winner of a destination.
8. The White Hart, Bath
The smell of this multi award winning foodie pub will hit you as soon as you enter their steamed-up doors. Grab an old school pew for a date night cuddle up.
9. The Packhorse, Bath
The pub that the community saved north of Bath in sleepy South Stoke has all the oldie worldie charm. With open fires, blankets and a growing foodie reputation it’s a must visit.
10. Methuen Arms, Corsham
This Inn has the feel of a country hotel with spacious dining and parlour room’s but with enough personality and quirkiness to provide the cosiness you’re looking from your country pub experience.
