Michelin-starred Josh Eggleton Develops 'Best of the South West' Menu for Ladies Day

Michelin-starred chef Josh Eggleton has partnered with the Head Chef at Bath Racecourse, Jonathan Williams, to develop and prepare an exclusive ‘Best of the South West’ fine dining experience at Bath Racecourse’s popular Ladies Day fixture on Saturday 19th August.

Focussing on using locally sourced produce from some of the region’s finest Artisan suppliers, the special menu even features ingredients that have been hand-foraged by the chefs themselves. As Chef-Patron of the multi-award-winning The Pony & Trap in Chew Magna and numerous other establishments across the South West, sustainability has always been high on Josh Eggleton’s agenda. The Pony & Trap even boasts its own kitchen garden growing herbs, fruit and vegetables and plans are in place to expand into the neighbouring field and create a micro-farm.

"We're looking forward to partnering with the Bath Racecourse team to produce this exclusive menu for this event,” explained Josh Eggleton. “We've designed a menu with the team which reflects the best flavours of summer with ingredients from the best local suppliers, and hopefully we'll make Ladies Day even more special for the diners. The team at the racecourse took us around the new facilities which are great and as the closest racecourse to The Pony & Trap; it'll be the first time I've been to the races as an adult.”

The exclusive ‘Best of the South West’ package costs £129 per person and has limited availability. The fine dining package includes a glass of champagne, canapé selection, five-course taster menu, light ‘Bath Racecourse’ afternoon tea, reserved table for the entire race fixture, hospitality entry tickets and raceday programme. An option to include a complementary wine flight is also available for an additional cost.

Jo Hall, Executive Director at Bath Racecourse added “We enjoy a great reputation for our new facilities and hospitality, and that includes our fine dining offer. Ladies Day is one of the most elegant events in our calendar and the ‘Best of the South West’ menu is absolutely perfect for those who wish to make the occasion even more special. We are delighted to be working with Josh and are especially pleased that the menu has such a strong local focus. It’s going to be a wonderful experience.”

The ‘Best of the South West’ menu includes steak tartare with mini Yorkshire pudding, Bath blue cheese beignets made using Gloucestershire Shipton mill flour and Devon blue cheese, chive crusted Capricorn goats cheese with fig and walnut wafers, honey baked fig and beetroot and horseradish ice cream all using local ingredients, with the fig and walnut organic bread sourced from Hobbs House in Chipping Sodbury.

The menu also features turbot and duo of Wiltshire Pork from Walter Rose butchers in Devizes. The light afternoon tea includes white chocolate profiterole using Kingston black cider apple brandy from Somerset.
