Parks, play areas and libraries closing

Bath & North East Somerset Council is closing all children’s play areas as well as parks where it is practical to restrict access. The libraries are also closing.

Bath, Midsomer Norton and Keynsham One Stop Shops are open, in their capacity as information services, for access to critical services including welfare vouchers and registrar services.

This comes in the light of the very clear message from the Government to stay at home to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The council also has today formally declared the current situation a major incident in accordance with the 2004 Civil Contingencies Act.

Councillor Dine Romero, council Leader, said: “We all must work together to reduce the spread of Coronavirus to protect our community.  This means following the stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives message.

“From today you will see signs going up on children’s play areas and parks telling people they are closed. Our libraries are also shutting.

“We must all follow the two-metre social distancing advice, as well as continue the handwashing guidance.

“Please check our website for all council updates, tune in to our local BBC radio stations and follow us on our social media accounts.”
