Your Total Guide To lifestyle

A Month in the Life of an Apprentice

Are you just beginning an apprenticeship? Wondering what your first month might be like? Here's a bit of a heads up as I share my experience so far...

Starting an apprenticeship can be daunting, but it’s a whole lot of fun too. You not only get to explore your creative side, but you’re always experiencing new things and gaining more knowledge. It’s a very steep learning curve, especially if you’re venturing into an area you’ve never worked in before, however it’s an exciting and fascinating one too. I started my apprenticeship four months ago, and I can honestly say that my brain has processed more in these four months than in the last four years (I know, it seems almost unbelievable; but it’s true!)

My experience as an apprentice so far has been incredible. I spent the first few weeks worrying and panicking that I would never understand it all (so if you’re in your first few weeks of an apprenticeship, I know EXACTLY how you feel!), but I pleasantly surprised myself; and you will too. My lovely colleagues took the time to explain how all the tools we use work (which they ended up doing more than once, because I have a brain like a sieve!) I needn’t have worried though, as I was very quickly on the road to understanding.

Although it was the first month where most of the training and learning took place, even now I’m still undertaking brand new concepts. My latest project has been creating and sending out email campaigns to potential clients. Before my apprenticeship, I didn’t have the foggiest idea of how an email campaign worked, so I was starting right from scratch. However, after being shown the ropes and being given a tour (as well some exploring of my own), I was soon to jump on it and start creating one after another.

In the past month, I’ve learnt how to create an informative and appealing email design and then send it off to targeted emails through Dotmailer. It was a huge challenge at first (with everything in business, it’s harder than it looks!) but once I had familiarised myself with all the tools, I began finding it really enjoyable. Having a bit of a creative side, I felt excited to get going and use my creativity. I have since started a series of email campaigns, focussing on the different guides we feature on the website. Just like with all the other tasks I’ve learnt over the last four months, such as adding content to the website and scheduling social media posts, it was tough to get my head around at first but once I had completed a few emails (with a little bit of help), It became much easier. I now feel much more confident in my new project!

Every month my apprenticeship brings brand new challenges, opportunities and experiences; which is what makes it such an exciting and fantastic position to be in. I just can’t wait to see what next month brings!
