Bath Rugby Foundation Seeks Runners After Being Chosen as Bath Half 2015 ?Local Charity of the Year?

Bath Rugby Foundation has been chosen as the Bath Half Marathon ?Local Charity of the Year? for 2015.

The ‘Local Charity of the Year’ status is given to charities working within the City of Bath or the Bath & North East Somerset Council area, to highlight the valuable, but perhaps less well-known work of smaller local charities.

Bath Rugby Foundation is an independent charity, 100% funded through sponsorships, fundraising and donations and has proudly worked with over 125,000 children and young people in the local community since starting in 2003.

We are looking for people to run for ‘Team BR Foundation’ to raise vital funds for our charity to ensure the Foundation continues to enhance the lives of young people through sport. The Foundation motivates, raises self esteem and confidence, and improves life skills in young people by impacting positively on educational achievement and social interaction. By running for the Foundation, participants will receive training support and a limited edition running top.

The Bath Half Marathon is one of the longest established and most popular city centre road events in the UK. It covers a two-lap 13.1 mile (21.1km) course straddling both sides of the River Avon. The race starts and finishes in Great Pulteney Street, in the heart of the World Heritage City of Bath.

Upon hearing the great news, Helena Coury, Head of Fundraising at Bath Rugby Foundation commented, “We are thrilled to have been chosen as ‘Local charity of the year’ for Bath Half 2015. As a small charity, we are entirely dependent on fundraising or donations; historically the Bath Half has been a great fundraiser and profile raiser for us.  We are so pleased to confirm that we already have ex- Bath Rugby players David Barnes & Lee Mears (and his wife Danni) signed up to run on our behalf with many other ex-players being coerced currently! We are really hoping that Bath Half 2015 will prove to be a huge fundraising success to allow us to continue delivering our award winning Inclusion & education projects.”

Former England and Bath Rugby hooker Lee Mears added “I was delighted to be asked by Bath Rugby Foundation to run on their behalf in next years Bath Half, the Foundation is a charity I have worked with for a number of years both during my playing days and more recently in my capacity as Foundation Trustee. The work they undertake in the community is fantastic and really does impact on young lives.”
