Perfect Up Do’s for an Autumn Wedding

As soon as September is over, it’s acceptable to get all of those big jumpers out, embrace Halloween and come November, you’ll be fully planning your Christmas. If you’re getting married at this beautiful time of year, you’ll want to embrace as much of the autumnal spirit and colours into your theme.

If you haven’t given your hair much thought yet, here are a few ideas you can take inspiration from. Before you feel all downbeat that you hair isn’t long enough, remember there are incredible synthetic hair extensions out there just waiting for you to create your dream up do with them.

A harvest inspired crown

Harvest, Halloween, call it what you like but we’re talking earthy colours like orange and gold, warmth from sunflowers, and maybe some berries woven in too. You’ll feel like a Greek goddess if you frame your face with some gentle curls and sit the crown on top of a messy but firmly fixed bun. You’ll (hopefully) look as if you’ve been running through a field of flowers to your husband, and the flowers have somehow caught in your hair and formed the most glorious crown because you’re a princess.

Dutch braid but up high

To give this hairstyle the glory it deserves you really ought to have some warm honey blonde or auburn highlights woven into your hair, but it’s not a necessity. To begin with, you need quite a lot of length (sort out some extensions if you need to) so that you have plenty of hair to twist into an up do on the top of your head. If you’re not sure how to do a Dutch braid, there’s a great guide here. An alternative to this style is creating a centre parting and braiding your hair either side to meet in the middle.

A bouffant bun with a twist

A classic look that has never gone out of style is a bun sat to one side of your neck, with plenty of volume in the roots. The trick with this look is to look like you’ve swept your hair back into a twist. However, it requires a lot of backcombing and texturizing spray in real life. It’s a better look if your hair isn’t too smooth, the more bohemian chic and relaxed you can create the bun the better.

Half up, half down

Helen at City Brides, says “bridal hair remains relaxed during the 2017 wedding season. Low, unstructured chignons complement soft flowing dresses with relaxed curls and texture still featuring heavily.” To create your own relaxed style, you can create a half up do.

Simply pull some looser strands of hair to leave around your face and behind this, make two small plaits with the front sections of your hair leaving the majority or your hair loose. Once you have the two plaits, wind them around each other behind your head and secure with bobby pins. Finish off by arranging some gypsophila in and around the plait to give it that wedding magic.
