Revealed: The Most Affordable Places in The UK For Teachers to Invest

A recent study conducted by recruitment agency Randstad, revealed the top locations within the UK for teachers to love while looking to get their foot on the property ladder. Unsurprisingly, the North did well when it came to value for money with Liverpool coming out on top, followed by Birmingham and Glasgow. The study considers teachers’ average salaries and the average house price within the area, which is then used to calculate the average time it takes to save for a deposit.

Liverpool

It might not be the largest city in the UK, in fact it currently comes in at number four, but this city has a lot to offer. With a rich and diverse history dating back to 1207, some may know this city to be most associated with music. Legendary band The Beatles came from Liverpool and the Guinness Book of World Records still proclaims that Liverpool is the capital of pop music. It’s not the just affordable property and exciting past times that are attractive to teachers. As of 2016, there were an impressive 37 schools described by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’. If you’re considering pursuing a career in education, then finding an education role in this area might be a great option worth considering!

Manchester

In sixth place is Manchester, with a rich industrial heritage and an extremely popular social scene, there’s no shortage of great things to do in Manchester. Not only is there a lot to do but the accommodation is a lot cheaper than the capital too, with average property prices at almost 40% lower, which can really make a difference to the cost of living. It’s also home to some of the best performing schools, with 77 ranking within the list. This can provide an attractive working environment for teachers, which could be reason enough to make the move!

Bristol

Bristol made the top thirteen places in the UK for teachers and this doesn’t come as a surprise as it was named as the best place to live in the UK in 2017. Although Bristol is a smaller sized city compared to others, it has that big city feel with plenty to offer! It has a growing economy and has recently had some heavy investments too. An impressive 96% of all children in Bristol attend secondary schools rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted so there’s a good opportunity for teachers to work for great schools in the area.
