Autumn Walks in Bath

Bath is an abundance of red, orange and yellows from September up to Christmas, so it's no wonder that it draws so much attention during the Autumn months.

It's cold out there, but it's the perfect opportunity to wrap up, get out in the fresh air and enjoy a stroll admiring Bath's wonderful scenery. We're so lucky in Bath to have the perfect mixture of both ends of the spectrum - a busy city atmosphere as well as open, tranquil landscapes with easy access to the country. Whether it's strolling through the rolling hills or taking in the urban city life, Bath has it all. 

Due to the nature of Autumn, it's the perfect time to wrap up have a great time walking or hiking amongst the crunchy leaves and bright sunshine (hopefully!) Here is where we recommend for an Autumn Walk around Bath this season...

Bath Skyline

Bath Skyline

Bath Skyline is just a short stroll from the city centre, but it takes you to another world of glorious meadows, ancient woodlands and secluded valleys. The 6 mile round walk is perfect for those wanting a break from the city hustle and bustle, whilst taking in the beauty from the elevated rolling hills. It's also the ideal spot to give the dog a good run!

Distance: 6 miles (9.6 km)

Estimated time: 3 hours 30 mins - 4 hours

The Cotswold Way

The Cotswold Way

The Cotswold Way is a 102 mile trail which runs from Bath Abbey, all the way up through the Cotswolds to Chipping Campden. The trail passes through much loved Cotswold villages such as Broadway and Stanton.

Beginning at Bath Abbey, it's the ideal location to start the trail and follow it for as long as you desire. Following the trail, you will be taken away from the urban life and thrown into the stunning valleys and farmland, guiding you up to view unbeatable views over Bath. 

Distance: up to 102 miles

Estimated Time: Walk from Bath - Cold Ashton: 2.5 to 3 hours

Prior Park Landscape Garden

Prior Park Landscape Garden

Prior Park is a haven for beauty all year round, but especially in the Autumn time. Windy paths nestle between the trees with red and golden leaves which lead you down to the stunning lake and famous Palladian Bridge, which is one of the only four in the world. It's not just the landscape that will have you awe-inspired, but also the hidden treasures tucked away within the park such as the ice and summer houses. Dog Friendly. Note: some paths are steep and uneven. 

Distance: 1 mile (1.6 km)

Estimated Time: 30 - 40 mins.

Kennet and Avon Canal

Kennet and Avon Canal

The Kennet and Avon Canal stretches 87 miles from Reading to Bristol. Conveniently passing through the centre of Bath city, the walk is ideally situated and the walking distance is completely up to the individual walker. In the Autumn, the canal path boasts a beautiful carpet of golden brown leaves which makes a stunning scene for walking. 

The canal path can also be followed either way - towards Bristol or Bradford On Avon. The walk from Bath to Bradford on Avon is around 10 miles, with plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants to stop by in on the way!

Dyrham Park

Dyrham Park

Dyrham Park is a National Trust owned park, property and estate located on the outskirts of Bath. Although the property is a delight to explore, the grounds make a stunning walk especially in the Autumn too. Before you even reach the house, you're greeted with miles of untouched rolling hills allowing with amazing views towards Bath and Bristol. You're almost up in the clouds though - so be sure to wrap up!

The formal gardens are just as much as a treat with stunning seasonal flowers and gorgeous deep reds, bright oranges' and golden brown leaves scattering the paths. 

Distance: 2 - 5 miles

Estimated Time: 45 minutes - 3 hours (depending on length of walk)

Dyrham Park is a National Trust owned park, property and estate located on the outskirts of Bath. Although the property is a delight to explore, the grounds make a stunning walk especially in the Autumn too. Before you even reach the house, you're greeted with miles of untouched rolling hills allowing with amazing views towards Bath and Bristol. You're almost up in the clouds though - so be sure to wrap up!

The formal gardens are just as much as a treat with stunning seasonal flowers and gorgeous deep reds, bright oranges' and golden brown leaves scattering the paths.

Westonbirt Arboretum

Westonbirt Arboretum

If you don't mind travelling out of town, Westonbirt Arboretum is a must in the autumn when the huge variety of trees turn red, orange and yellow. Covering approximately 600 acres of land, the Arboretum offers a huge variety of enjoyable walks. The park is all signposted with different length walks to suit everyone, and the cafe which is central makes the perfect pit-stop for a coffee and bite to eat. The Silk Wood walk is ideal for walking the dogs, whereas the Old Arboretum is a shorter walk (no dogs). 

Please note that visits to Westonbirt must currently be pre-booked. Please do not turn up without booking a slot.
