Bath Rugby Staff to run for Bath Rugby Foundation

Staff members from Bath Rugby are showing their support for the Club charity Bath Rugby Foundation by signing up to run the 2015 Vitality Bath Half marathon.

Named ‘Local Charity of the Year’ for the 2015, Bath Rugby Foundation is hoping to gain support from 150 runners to raise funds to ensure the Foundation continues to enhance the lives of young people through sport. The status ‘Local Charity of the Year’ is given to charities working within the City of Bath, or the Bath & North East Somerset Council area, to highlight the valuable work of smaller local charities.

Members of Bath Rugby staff already signed up to run for the charity includes Huw Warren Business Development Manager, Business Development Executive Ollie Braley, Marketing Assistant Kat Farmer, Management Accountant Joe Lewis and Ledger Clerk Chantelle Symonds.

The Bath Rugby runners will join Foundation Inclusion Manager, and Wales Rugby international, Caryl Thomas and former Bath Rugby, and England star, David Flatman in the 13.1 mile race in support of the Foundation. The Bath Half is one of the longest established and most popular city centre road events in Britain. It covers a two-lap 13.1 mile (21.1km) course straddling both sides of the River Avon. The race starts and finishes in Great Pulteney Street, in the heart of the World Heritage City of Bath.

Participants running for the Bath Rugby Foundation will receive a limited edition running top and exclusive access to the Bath Half hub situated at The Recreation Ground, a two minute walk from the start line. The runners will also be able to use hot showers and changing rooms as well as pre and post race massage.

Former England and Bath Rugby prop David Flatman joked, “I was devastated to be asked by Bath Rugby Foundation to run on their behalf in next year's Bath Half, primarily because I hate running. However, the Foundation is a charity I have worked with and admired hugely for a number of years.  The work they undertake in the community is fantastic and really does impact on young lives, so I am very happy to help them in any way I can."

Business Development Executive Ollie Braley added “It’s always great to raise money for charity and the fact that we are running for the Club charity is even more fitting. We are also delighted that SKINS have supplied the Bath Rugby staff with some fantastic compression clothing, it’s going to make training through the winter months a little easier!”

Bath Rugby Foundation is an independent charity, 100% funded through sponsorships, fundraising and donations and has proudly worked with over 100,000 children and young people in the local community since starting in 2003. Bath Rugby Foundation motivates, raises self esteem and confidence, and improves life skills in young people by impacting positively on educational achievement and social interaction.
