Say Hi to Spokes the Owl – He’s a Hoot…

Deloitte and Julian House have kindly donated their Bike Workshop Minerva Owl “Spokes” to Thermae Bath Spa. They are delighted to welcome him in to roost for the summer!

Unusually for an owl, Spokes is most active during the day, so you’ll probably catch him ruffling his feathers at Thermae Bath Spa's entrance. At night-time he's carried him into the spa where he has a well-deserved rest (and we suspect, a dip in our natural thermal waters. Wouldn’t you?)

Spokes the owl is sponsored by Deloitte, and has been hand-painted by Bath's own artist Perry Harris.

About Minerva’s Owls

Minerva's Owls of Bath 2018 is a major public art sculpture trail featuring a giant flock of 85 individually decorated, super-sized owl sculptures, displayed across the World Heritage city of Bath and surrounding region from 25 June–10 September 2018.

Why owls? The Roman Baths temple, built in 1AD, was dedicated to Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, whose symbol was an owl.  Minerva's owl of wisdom can be seen carved into the Temple pediment displayed at the Roman Baths Museum.

Coincidentally there is a stunning mosaic of Minerva in one of the steam rooms at Thermae Bath Spa – keep your eyes peeled!
