QUERCUS, A NEW BISTRO & SPECIALIST WINE SHOP OPENS ON WILTSHIRE HIGH STREET

A new bistro and specialist wine shop run by experienced manager and chef Steve Newton, has opened on the High Street in Royal Wootton Bassett.

Quercus, is a bistro linked to the newly-opened RWB Auctions and is the latest business to open which is part of the family of businesses owned by local entrepreneur Jon White.

Jon is the man behind the new RWB Auction house, Old Bank Antiques, Britannia Coin Company and Gold Traders UK – all of which are based in Royal Wootton Bassett. A champion of the High Street, Jon and his team have ensured that Quercus is designed to fit into the auction room complex but also serving the local community, offering something a little different.

The bistro has, so far, created jobs for a team of seven with more staff being employed in the coming months.

Jon said: “It has been a lot of hard work to get the bistro open and ready for business and I’d like to thank my team for their support in this. We are aiming to offer an intimate, cosy and relaxed atmosphere with exceptionally good food.

“With many auction houses getting food and drink on site can be something of a challenge. Often they are in industrial estates or remote settings where you are lucky to get a drink in a plastic cup and a limp sandwich. My aim was that there would be access to a cosy venue with great food on site – yet it’s also accessible to the wider community and becomes part of a vibrant and modern High Street.

“We’re very proud of the bistro which, initially, will open from Wednesdays to Sundays offering brunch, lunch and dinner as well as Sunday lunches. We are also proud to offer fantastic wine – not available elsewhere – and bottles can be ordered and purchased as we are also a ‘bottle shop’.”

Heading up the team at Quercus is Steve Newton, who has worked in hospitality for more than 20 years including running his own pub. After taking a short break from hospitality Jon enticed him back to run Quercus.

“Jon and his team asked me my vision many months ago and now it’s a reality. We offer delicious and high quality food at affordable prices and where possible we are using Wiltshire suppliers and farmers for our dishes. I will be changing the menu every month so there will be a seasonal element to our dishes,” Steve said.

“Offering wonderful wines which are not readily available has also formed part of my dream for this bistro. Anyone can come in and order or takeaway their favourites or try some high quality wines – all of which are listed on our website.”

The name ‘Quercus’ comes from the Latin word for oak and the premises used to be the Royal Oak Pub, so the name has been chosen to recognise the heritage of the premises.
