Rugby World Cup Special: TGt Meets ... Andy Williams

We’ve been speaking to Andy Williams, former Welsh International Bath Rugby Scrum Half. Having returned to Bath as a Sports Lecturer at Bath College, he’s been talking all things Rugby World Cup 2015 ...

Who are the dark horses, and why?

France - one of the best sides under pressure. When everyone writes them off they are still able to perform.

Which nation will flop, and why?

South Africa - pretty sure they will slip up either against Scotland or in the Quarters.

Who will be the stand-out player of the tournament, and why?

Louis Picamoles - the French No 8 - looks like he has worked really hard during the off season.

Name the England XV you’d pick for the first game against Fiji…

Marler
Young
Cole
Parling
Lawes
Wood
Robshaw
Morgan
Young
Farrell
May
Burges
Joseph
Watson
Brown

Does home advantage mean a great deal in a World Cup?

No - anything can happen in a one off game.

Which was the first World Cup you watched as a child?

1991 Wales v Western Samoa - I was there!

What is your favourite memory of World Cups past, and why?

Jonah Lomu in 1995 - he totally dominated the tournament and Tim Warren in 1999 - the Australian centre.

What does the Rugby World Cup mean to you?

Now I've retired from the game - being able to experience the hype and tension of the Nations as a spectator.

Andy is playing in the forthcoming Wales Legends game against England legends at the Twickenham Stoop on Thursday 24th of September. For more information on the match click here.
