Who Is New Bath Signing Luke Charteris?

Bath Rugby have confirmed Welsh international Luke Charteris will join up with the club ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, on a three-year deal from Racing 92. But, despite the Welshman being well versed on the big stage, how much do you know about the 32-year-old?

Place of birth: Camborne, UK

Weight: 129kg

Education: Bath University, sport and exercise science degree. Graduated in 2005.

Charteris began his career at Llanelli Scarlet in 2001, a side his made 75 appearances for before moving to Newport Gwent Dragons in 2003, where he spent almost a decade. In 2011 he was made Dragons’ captain.

He was second-longest serving player to have been part of the original Dragons setup in 2003 (outlasted by hooker Steve Jones), lining up 142 times for the Dragons in his career.

His first senior try for the Dragons came in the end of season rout of the Border Reivers at Rodney Parade.

Charteris played for Wales at Under 19 and 21 levels and graduated through the Newport youth system and made his international debut against South Africa as a replacement at the Millennium Stadium in November 2004.

He had to wait until 2009 to play a part in the RBS 6 Nations match, starting against Scotland and he went onto feature in all seven of Wales’ games in the Rugby World Cup in 2011.
 
The second-row was part of the Grand Slam winning Wales side that took the RBS 6 Nations title in 2012.
 
After making his Wales debut against South Africa in 2004, Charteris featured in all five of Warren Gatland's side's matches at the World Cup.
