Bath-based cricketer to attempt World Record

WITH no concern for slow over rates, Bathford Cricket Club’s Matthew Hunt will attempt to bowl his way into the Guinness Book of World Records on the eve of the new season.

On Sunday 24 April, Hunt, 32, hopes to achieve the longest-ever run up recorded by a bowler, starting his epic journey at Bath Cricket Club and finishing at the club’s Wynne Wilson Memorial Ground, having covered 6.1 kilometres.

For his attempt to be valid, Hunt has to bowl a legitimate delivery in an actual cricket match – no easy feat on Bathford’s notoriously sloping wicket.

A team from neighbouring village Bathampton has agreed to provide the opposition on what promises to be a history-making day for cricket in the region.

“The motivation is to raise funds for the RUH’s (Royal United Hospital in Bath) Forever Friends Appeal and the club that I love,” said Hunt, who has been playing for the Wiltshire League side since he was 13.

“We are splitting all funds raised with the brilliant RUH and the other half of the funds going on vital maintenance work at the club.

“I love a challenge, and running up Bathford Hill in the latter stages will certainly be challenging.

“I just hope I don’t deliver a no-ball at the end of it. Imagine the stick I’ll get!”
