Total Guide to Social Media: 3 Tips for Your Brand's Twitter Account

Every now and then, we?ll be providing you with a selection of social media marketing tips that you can use for your business?s presence. This month, we get the low-down on a couple of Twitter tips from our very own Alex Pollock.

There are no real written rules for creating a successful Twitter account, and there’s no real way to define ‘success’; these factors are based on your initial goals. Here are 3 tips to help your brand’s Twitter presence...

Utilise the right kind of profile.

You can either brand the profile with your company logo, ethos, and bio; or, you could opt to create a character/persona that unites a personalised brand with that of the company.

Level of balance is key – branded profiles are great for news, PR, contests, customer relations… Personalised profiles are great for engagement, and creating a micro-community.

Build credibility.

This has no relation to the number of tweets, followers or following – although these are important perception factors. It’s about developing a reputation as becoming a trusted source of information; becoming a ‘thought leader’ in a particular area.

Your Twitter updates should reflect you and your brand’s interests. If you’re trying to establish yourself as a particular expert, you’ll need to be tweeting about relevant news and issues.

Establish the right voice.

Twitter users tend to prefer a direct, genuine, and of course, a likable tone from your business, but think about your voice as you Tweet. How do you want your business to appear to the Twitter community?

As well as this, you should always remember that Twitter is an advertising board – it’s a network to share information and converse. The best tweeters don’t try to sell to their followers, they try to engage in a more personable way; help with issues, share information that they find interesting, etc.
