TGt Meets... Kartini Sutoto

We spoke to Kartini Sutoto, Business Development Manager at Bath's new Century Casino, about her job role and life in the beautiful city of Bath!

Describe your job role in one sentence…

I build relationships with local businesses and people, as well as using my Mayfair background to develop the best possible experience for our future customers.

What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

Putting together something new and unique, it’s exciting for me to be a part of it all in the city I love most.

And the most challenging?

Bringing a high-quality casino into a completely new market (not counting the 18th century).

Who has had the greatest impact on your career to date?

I should probably say my auntie, the person who introduced me to the casino industry, but it has probably been a close family friend who I know as ‘uncle’. He has always been inspirational throughout my life and consistently positive. He believes everything is possible and nothing is worth losing sleep over.

What are your professional goals?

For the moment, my goal is to successfully launch the casino this year.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Bath?

There are so many incredible places to eat in Bath, but Ponte Vecchio was my first experience and it’s still my favourite. Amazing dishes to comfort you on any day, in an idyllic setting by the weir.

What do you think attracts business people to Bath?

The beauty of the city, proximity to London, diversity of the people and probably the many unexplored business opportunities yet to be discovered in Bath.

How do you like to spend your time off?

Since moving to Bath two years ago I enjoy nothing more than exploring the south west and all the many things it has to offer. We live in an amazing part of the world and it competes with all the usual international destinations.

What has been your greatest achievement to date?

I still think my greatest most memorable achievement in life to date was coaxing one of the most highly regarded respected Arab Royals onto the dance floor for a rendition of Gangnam Style. It was at a New Year’s Eve gala event in the heart of Mayfair, and hundreds of people were watching. He loved it and people still mention it to me to this day.
