TGtB Meets...Henny & Joe's - Bath Life Awards Special

Following their win at the Bath Life Awards, Henny & Joe's chatted to Total Bath about taking home the Best New Business award.

Congratulations on your win! Tell us a little bit about your business?

We offer a single, very simple product: Henny & Joe's No.1 Original Masala Chai syrup. ‘Masala chai’, for the uninitiated, is Hebrew for ‘mixed spice tea’. This is a natural chai syrup based on ancient recipes that originates from South Asia around 5000 years ago. Using only 100% natural ingredients and traditional methods of decoction, we blend aromatic whole spices such as cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, vanilla, all spice, fennel seed, mixed spice, star anise, sugar and water to give a taste that is like no other.

What does winning this award mean for you and your company?

It’s an absolute honour to win this award. We are a very small, couple-run business and, as any small business owner knows, it means long hours and late nights! It means so much to us that our hard work has paid off, especially when we were up against so much competition. Hopefully, this award will allow us to grow, help us achieve even more and allow us to reach our goals.

How are you planning to celebrate your victory?

Maybe a candlelit dinner for two at the winners of the Bath Life ‘Best Restaurant Award’, Yammo!

Business is clearly booming, why do you think so many people visit Bath?

Bath has something that so many other cities fail to achieve. Not only is it beautiful but it possess the presence of so many fantastic, high quality independent boutiques, such as Grace and Teds on Kingsmead Square, and restaurants, such as The Circus, Yammo and (our personal favourite) ‘Aio’. The cafes in Bath are second to none and we feel they are undervalued in Bath. There’s such a wide selection and we are spoilt for choice. All of who serve stunning coffee and tea’s that is superior to the rest of the country.

What's your favourite thing about Bath and why?

Everyone agrees Bath is a fantastic city. Both my partner and I have lived in Bath all our lives and we both agree we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Bath is so individual due to its amazing independent, small businesses. Its like a family as everyone looks out for each other.
