Top 5 Tips for Making Video Content In 2022

How are you currently marketing your business? If your answer doesn't include video then you could be missing out on a huge potential audience. So here are Total Guide to's top five tips on creating great video content in 2022.

Research conducted in 2021 shows that 93% of businesses use video as a critical part of their marketing strategy, but how do you avoid making bad videos that will turn off your audience, and instead reap the benefits of engaging video content.

1.) You don't need expensive equipment

It's easy to get sidelined into the thought process that if you're going to create videos, then you need to buy lots of professional equipment. However with cameras on new smartphones now filming in HD and some even in 4K, your phone can be your greatest asset when filming video.

Easy to move around, high quality, and quick at sharing and posting your video content, phones are great to use if you're just getting started with making videos.

Top tip: Film in landscape mode for videos except when making TikToks or Instagram Reels/Stories.

2.) Make a plan

I'm not saying you need to go and design your own storyboards before filming. However making a brief plan focusing on the shots you want, length of the video, speech and script, and what you want the video to achieve for you and your business is important.

Set aside an hour and make some bullet points on each main aspect of the video and then get out there and start filming. Don't spend too long and allow for some changes to be made when filming.

Top tip: Plan but allow for flexibility when filming.

3.) Consider using a presenter

Not all videos will require a presenter, but sometimes having someone present can be the difference between people staying engaged or switching off.

By using a presenter you will narrate, add energy, and give context to your video.

Showing people a face helps make your business seem more trustworthy and friendly to the viewer and in turn helps drive the viewer to take action.

Top tip: Don't over-present. Keep it short.

4.) Make your videos fun!

People watch videos because they are fun, engaging, and provide them with something new. So a great way to produce video content that provides results is to make it fun. When filming, think to yourself whether you would enjoy the video. If the answer is no then change what you're doing!

Adding in some catchy royalty-free music, filming in an eye-catching location, or simply showing your face are easy ways of making videos enjoyable to watch.

Top tip: Don't try too hard to make things fun or the video will seem fake.

5.) Don't overedit

With technology rapidly advancing and more video software platforms becoming easily accessible, it's easy to over-edit your videos. Professional video companies may use lots of editing techniques, but if you're filming video yourself then keeping edits clean and simple is the best way of getting your message across.

Don't get drawn into the idea of adding in lots of transitions or special text, just keep the video simple and let the images do the selling.

Top tip: Use Adobe Premiere Pro when editing videos.
