Your Total Guide To lifestyle

New Year, New Hair-Do with Frontlinestyle

Do you have the frequent urge to change your hairstyle but never go through with it? Out with the old, in with the new! It’s 2016, winter’s here and we are lucky to have some incredibly talented hairdressers in Bath, especially the team at Frontlinestyle, so why wait!?

After growing my naturally frizzy hair long and colouring my light brown hair blonde for my wedding earlier this year, my locks were feeling drier than ever and I was lacking the time to maintain my colour.

I was about to embark on the busiest month of the year for business meetings and networking events, so something had to be done; quickly.

I wouldn’t trust any hairdresser to give me a new style and when I’d tried to go darker previously I ended up with a red tone to my roots, so this made me very nervous and careful about which salon to choose. From having treatments with them before, I knew the staff were friendly and knowledgeable so my salon of choice was Frontlinestyle. I’d made my choice and booked myself in so I couldn’t change my mind!

I didn’t give FLS much notice as I had an important work event in just a weeks’ time. Despite this, they were extremely accommodating and found a way to get me in on the day of an event, perfect!

I was asked to pop in prior to my appointment for a skin test. Many people find this is a pointless exercise especially if you’ve been colouring your hair for years but they are very strict about this and for good reason. Different salons use different products and you never know how your skin will react; it’s better to be safe than sorry. Plus, while I was introduced to Amie, Master Stylist and Salon Manager who was going to be transforming my colour. Amie took the time to listen to what I wanted and thought about what would be realistic according to my hair type and lifestyle.

We both agreed to stick with the blonde and to tone it down to more my natural colour – perfect for the winter and would mean I wouldn’t need frequent visits to touch up my roots. Amie said she was going for a super natural look with subtle multi-tones which was exactly what I was looking for!

I was then introduced to Alex who would be working on my cut. I was really drawn to all of the bobs in magazines and on Pinterest but wasn’t sure whether it would work with my frizzy mop. He explained how a graduated bob with a few layers to thin the hair would make it work. As with Amie, he took in to consideration lifestyle factors when deciding on the length, so he recommended a medium length graduated bob so I would still have a drastic change and lose all the dead-ends but still be able to put it up for exercising. Plus, my hair is so curly it looks shorter than it is anyway.

On the day itself, I was greeted by the friendly team and was made a delicious cup of filter coffee while Amie made a start on the colour. While applying the first foils she explained how she was going to achieve the look we were going for.

To avoid the red roots, Amie was going to be using Wella colours, alternating soft chocolate with a light and creamy blonde. That mixed in with my natural colour would achieve the dark blonde ‘Jennifer Anniston’ colour I had my heart set on.

Sitting in a salon for hours waiting for your foils to be applied can be a very painful process and I’ve been told by many hairdressers that I have a lot of hair which is why it takes so long. But not with Amie…she was rapid! I have never seen anything like it; my half head of foils were complete within 45 minutes! Previous hairdressers have taken up to 3 hours on my hair! Despite being so quick, she was extremely thorough and got very close to the root.

I noticed magazines and posters around the salon with Jennifer Aniston all over them which I though was very apt after I’d asked for her colour. Amie explained that Jennifer Aniston had launched a range of hair products called Living Proof and that they are genuinely unique and produce outstanding results (the products have won numerous scientific breakthrough awards). They essentially contain molecules which have exquisitely thin, invisible shields to strengthen and protect hair. Having unruly hair, this really interested me and Amie kindly had my hair washed using the products.

The smell was divine and even though I’d had colour on my hair you could feel the silkiness while it was being washed. I was then treated to a wonderful scalp massage and I felt so relaxed and could have fallen asleep.I soon woke up when I realised it was time to have the mop chopped!

Alex was fantastic; really confident and got to work straight away. He started by showing me how much length he’d be taking off which was about 3 inches from the back and one from the front as we were going for quite a prominent graduation to give my hair more weight at the front and to stop it for ‘puffing out’ as it all too often does.

As with Amie, he was like lightening and had finished the cut within 25 minutes. Even though my hair was wet, I could tell there was no red tinge and that the cut was going to look brilliant when it was dry.

Once again, Alex listened to the style I like. Although I was going for a new look I didn’t want it to be too drastic and not look myself. I’ve never liked poker straight hair and like to go with my natural wave so Alex blow dried it curly.

The results were incredible – my hair had never looked healthier and there was no red in sight! Although it was a completely new cut and colour, I was still slightly blonde and could still go with my curls so it still felt like me.

The timing of my appointment couldn’t have been more perfect as I was about to attend the Bath Rugby Shirt Sponsors Dinner so I walked out and on to the event with my new bouncy locks feeling like I should be appearing in a L’Oreal advert.

It has been so easy to maintain and I’ve enjoyed playing with different looks – a bob doesn’t mean you just have to go with a straight style.

If you’re looking for a new look for 2016 then I would confidently recommend you choose Frontlinestyle. The staff's skills and knowledge are second to none; they clearly take so much pride in their work and are proud of their salon. The whole experience is wonderful and it was such a personalised service.  And – if you’re pushed for time like me, they have late night appointments!
