History Makers of Bath Launch

The Guildhall?s Braunsweig Room proved to be the perfect venue for the launch of the History Makers of Bath.

Hosted by Cllr Neil Butters, Chairman of Bath & North East Somerset Council and included guest speaker the Right Honourable Don Foster MP, the many guests were entertained with tales of the heroes, heroines and villains who will be featured in the exciting outdoor exhibition from 4 September until 23 October this year.

The thirty panels will depict well known, and a few lesser known people, who have left their footprint on the city. Sited in Kingston Parade, this exhibition will attract residents and visitors alike to give a real sense of historic pride.

Cllr Neil Butters was thrilled to be able to host such an event which recognised the heritage of Bath with figures such as John Wood, Ralph Allen, Jane Austen, Mary Shelly and Bobby Crocker – the last person to be put into the stocks!

“With my railway connections” Cllr Butters continued “I have to mention Brunel (one of the celebrity panels), whilst not a Bath resident, his influence with the railway and his many engineering achievements, Bath wouldn’t be what it is today without him”

Don Foster, a staunch supporter of the History Makers of Bath said “One of the real history makers is Angela Calvert-Jones who is the inspiration behind this unique and exceptional exhibition. It is estimated that over 100,000 people will be able to view this outside display showing those who have influenced Bath’s rich history and how they have achieved it.”

St John’s Hospital established since 1174 has championed the cause by being lead sponsors, with Withy King sponsoring their website. Together with support already committed from other local businesses, Bath can look forward to the seven weeks ‘History Makers of Bath exhibition’ at Kingston Parade in September and October.

In addition to celebrating the great people of the city, the History Makers of Bath exhibition is raising funds to support the Forever Friends Appeal’s Cancer Care Campaign.
