Review: David Maxwell Hairdressing

David Maxwell Hair Dressing is one of Bath's most prestigious hair salons. With some fantastic awards under their belt, we thought we?d send our Sales Manager, Rachael Booth along to find out what an Award Winning Salon is really like, and here?s how she got on?

David Maxwell has a wealth of experience and expertise, with over 30 years in the hairdressing industry, which may explain why the awards keep coming in!

I was really excited to visit David Maxwell, I’d heard great things about David and his team so I couldn’t wait to experience it first-hand. The salon is very luxurious and has a modern chic décor – everything you’d expect from a high class establishment.

We arrived at the salon and were greeted by the lovely Becky; who offered us refreshments and took our coats as she led us into the salon.

Whilst I spoke to David and his staff about the salon, and their industry, I really got a feel for their passion, not only for what they do individually but for what they achieve together. David is a keen ambassador for training and education and within his large team employees several apprentices which he’s actively involved in training.

David examined the condition of my hair – which is important if you’re having any form of colour done. I was really impressed with my consultation, he asked me what I liked and didn’t like about my hair and what my current hair routine was. By this time, a lovely hot latte had appeared along with a delicious chocolate brownie.  I can see why they won a customer service award!

After talking in depth with David, we decided to give my hair a little more shape and bounce by adding a few more layers and shaping it around my face. For the colour, we opted to stay blonde but add some warmer, honey tones through the lengths.

David then set to work on a full set of foils. He paid special attention to my hair line; as having a little girl I often tie it back for ease so needed the colour to look seamless from all angles.

I chatted with David and Becky, one of the other stylists (who is a Raccoon Hair extension specialist), whilst I waited for the highlights to develop. I was also offered magazines and more refreshments. They really do attend to all your needs and make you feel very comfortable.

When the colour was ready, it was over to the basins for a wash and a treatment. David Maxwell pride themselves on using high quality hair products that contain minimal if no toxins. As I’d just had colour added to my hair, I was recommended a treatment to help boost the moisture levels and repair any heat damage (I'm a straightener addict!). I opted for a keratin intensive treatment by Awapuhi (which is the Hawaiian word for wild ginger). The treatment was simply divine. My hair felt soft and nourished and full of vitality - definitely worth the investment.

After my pampering at the basin, I returned to my chair for the restyle. David talked me through every step of my cut to make sure I was happy with the results. He removed a few inches from the lengths and added more layers to improve the body and movement.

After the expert restyle, David went through the different products to help lift my hair and create volume as well as giving my hair a healthy gloss.

I was over the moon at the end results. David used his knowledge and experience, along with carefully listening to my needs, to create a truly lovely and manageable style. The colour looked refreshed and vibrant, and the cut and treatment gave my hair a new bounce and fabulous body.

The whole experience from start to finish was wonderful: the staff were very attentive, and the cut and colour was better than I could have hoped for. Everything about the salon has been so perfectly thought out, and they really pay attention to every detail. I’d highly recommend a visit to David Maxwell’s to anyone who wanted that extra special service.
