TOWN COUNCIL RECOGNISING REMARKABLE COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS WITH MALMESBURY CIVIC AWARDS

Malmesbury town councillors are getting ready to celebrate the individuals of the local community as nominations open for the annual Malmesbury Civic Awards 2024.

These awards celebrate individuals and groups who have made exceptional and enduring contributions to the local community within the designated areas of Malmesbury, Milbourne, Cowbridge, Burton Hill, Common Road, Foxley Road, and Filands.

The Malmesbury Civic Awards honour outstanding community members across various categories, including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Junior Citizen of the Year, Organization or Group of the Year, 10 Year Service Volunteer Contribution Certificate, and Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mayor, Cllr Gavin Grant will present the Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Award, designed to honour someone who has dedicated years to creating a lasting and positive effect on the community.

“This is a very important event for our town. It’s our opportunity to recognise individuals of all ages and community groups that do so much to make Malmesbury a special place. Anyone can make a nomination and I encourage them to do so. We also want to acknowledge those volunteers who have been working away, often quietly behind the scenes, who keep so many clubs, societies, local charities and community groups going. This is also the moment to shine the spotlight on them.”

Nominations for the awards are now open, and members of the community are encouraged to submit nominations for deserving candidates.

Last year winners included:

*Rhoslyn Millard – Junior Citizen of the Year

*Ellie Barlow – Young Citizen of the Year

*Lou James – Citizen of the Year (awarded posthumously)

*Malmesbury Amateur Boxing Club – Organisation of the Year.

The deadline for submission of nomination forms for this year’s awards is 12pm on Monday 18th March. All nominations will be reviewed by a panel of judges appointed by Malmesbury Town Council. The Malmesbury Civic Awards Ceremony will then take place on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, at 7:00 pm.
