Bath City pay the penalty against Potters Bar in FA Cup

Bath City were dumped out of the FA Cup on Tuesday night as they lost on penalties to Potters Bar Town in the third qualifying round replay.

The score was tied at 1-1 after 90 and then 120 minutes and the match had to be settled via the cruel nature of the penalty shoot-out, where Potters Bar prevailed 4-3 to book a tie in the fourth qualifying round at Chetham Town.

Billy Murphy gave Bath City the lead after 19 minutes, but the Romans failed to build on their advantage.

Potters Bar hit back five minutes before half-time through Michael Murray's goal, which was the away side's first shot on goal.

That was all the 465 in attendance got in terms of goals in regulation time, but more was to come in the shoot-out.

Potters Bar buried their first, but Marvin Morgan was on hand to level the score up at 1-1 with one taken each.

The visitors retook the lead, and that one remained intact due to Lee Marshall having his penalty saved.

Parity was restored, however when Max O'Leary saved Potters Bar's third penalty, and then captain Frankie Artus nestled his spot-kick into the net.

It was then 3-3 after the next set, with Jack Batten scoring for City, but after Potters Bar retook the lead for a fourth time, Chas Hemmings had his effort saved which ended Bath's FA Cup run for another year.
