Jazmin Sawyers leaps into long jump final

Jazmin Sawyers became the latest Team Bath athlete to reach an Olympic final on Wednesday morning as she put in a good showing in the long jump semi.

Sawyers, who is a former Bobsliegh athlete and won silver at the 2012 winter Olympics, proved she is as efficient at long jump as she finished in the 12th and final qualification spot.

She jumped 6.53m which was .3 of a metre further than closest competitor American Janay DeLoach which means she will be featuring in tomorrow's final at 1:15 in the morning.

A good showing in the final will be expected given that the 21-year-old has two silver medals to her name from the 2012 European Championships in Amsterdam as well as the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

If she medals in Brazil it will be her first Olympic success in long jump.
