Mafi thanks Bath Rugby for Premiership opportunity

Japan international Amanaki Mafi has returned to his native Japan following a short but successful stint in Somerset wearing the blue, black and white of Bath Rugby.

The club have confirmed Mafi is returning to Japan prior to the end of the season by mutual agreement.

Amanaki Mafi said, “I would like to thank Bath Rugby for the opportunity to play in the Aviva Premiership, and for all the support they have given my family and I throughout our time in England.”

The club have expressed their personal thanks to Amanaki for all his hard work this season and best wishes for his future endeavours.

The 26-year-old made his Bath debut against Worcester Warriors back in February, and scored four tries in his first four matches.

Mafi's playing style, endless running and impressive carrying abilities soon saw him catch the eyes of many, and the Japan international soon stood out in what was an otherwise fruitless patch of poor form for Bath Rugby.

While Bath Rugby were believed to be negotiating a deal to retain the services of the number 8 on a shared deal, recent reports have alluded to Mafi's departure being brought upon by a disagreement regarding the club's medical department.
