ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Bristol Rugby 12-11 Bath Rugby

A fantastic kicking display from ex-Bath Rugby man Gavin Henson got Bristol a first win over the Blue, Black and White since 2006.

Henson scored three penalties and one drop goal as a game dominated by points via the boot was won by the hosts.

Bath Rugby's Rhys Priestland scored two penalties of his own but it was not enough and the Blue, Black and White were on the wrong side of the derby scoreline in the fourth and final meeting between these two old foes this season.

It could have been a completely different story though as, as early as the second minute, Bath got over the try line with Harry Davies but, unfortunately, TMO ruled that he was out of touch prior to scoring and no try was given.

Bristol would then take the lead, in the 11th minute, through a long-distance Henson drop goal as the Welshman made his first start in four months. 3-0.

In the 19th minute Priestland levelled the scores with a penalty to keep Bath in the contest.

Three minutes before half-time Henson kicked through a penalty to make it 6-3 to Bristol and he scored again, with the same method, on the stroke of half-time and Bristol went into the break 9-3 in front.

Priestland had the chance to make it a six-point game again one minute into the second half, but his kick was wide, and he was soon punished.

Five minutes into the second period Henson scored his hat-trick penalty for 12-3 and two minutes later Bath had a second try ruled out by the TMO.

David Denton thought he had scored but, just like Davies before him, he was adjudged to be out of bounds and Bristol held on.

Bath did manage to finally get some more points on the board, in the 58th minute, with Priestland again the man on target with his second scored penalty of the afternoon.

The game finally saw a try in the 67th minute, and it went Bath's way, as Semesa Rokoduguni intercepted a wayward Bristol pass and galloped towards the try line to reduce the arreas. Priestland missed the chance to turn the game on its head though, so the score stayed at 12-11 in Bristol's favour.
