Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the not-for-profit social enterprise that runs leisure centres in Bath and North East Somerset on behalf of the council.
About twenty students a year get work placements with the organisation, mainly at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre.
“It’s an opportunity for students to learn and develop key employability skills such as customer service, punctuality and teamwork,” said Mark Harrison, GLL’s local Community Sport Manager.
“We also contribute to the content of Bath College’s sport courses – ensuring that it remains relevant to our industry and provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to forge a successful career.
“We help with mock interviews and attend both their main and SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) career fair events to promote our entry level positions, career pathways and the benefits of working for GLL.
“It’s a mutually beneficial partnership and many of our flexible staff are former college placement students.”
GLL is a workers’ cooperative that runs 254 leisure centres, 115 libraries and 10 children’s centres nationwide. Locally, it also runs Bath Pavilion.
Nicki Martin, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Bath College, said: “This award recognises the outstanding contribution GLL has made to Bath College and our learners over the past year.
“Their continued partnership, support, and commitment to skills development have made a lasting impact and we are proud to recognise that.”
The award will be presented at the college’s Celebrating Success Awards ceremony on Tuesday 8th July
