Bath Preservation Trust welcomes three new trustees

July 2023 – Bath Preservation Trust (BPT) is pleased to announce the appointment of three new trustees to its board: Annabel Thomas MacGregor, Donna Speed and Julian Gooding.

The new trustees were formally nominated and welcomed at BPT’s Annual General Meeting on 11th July 2023. At the same meeting, Robert Dunton retired his position but will stay on as an advisor to the Architecture, Planning and Place Committee. These most recent changes bring BPT’s total number of trustees to 12 including chairperson Thomas Sheppard DL.

Annabel Thomas MacGregor is the Director of Education at the English-Speaking Union, an international education charity and membership organisation active in more than 50 countries. With a passion for education, Annabel has worked extensively in the arts and education sectors.

Donna Speed is the CEO of We The Curious in Bristol and a prominent cultural leader. With a people-first approach, Donna has been fundamental to the success of We The Curious and supports and mentors students and charities throughout the West Country.

Julian Gooding is an experienced lawyer and compliance professional who has spent his career working in senior leadership and regulatory governance with banks across the world.

Alex Sherman, CEO of Bath Preservation Trust says: “I am delighted to welcome Annabel, Donna and Julian to BPT. As the organisation grows and develops, we need to ensure that the highest possible levels of relevant expertise are available to us. The breadth and depth of Annabel, Donna and Julian’s respective skills and experience will bolster the pool of overall knowledge and expertise that BPT is able to draw upon. It is also really important for us to stimulate fresh ideas and vision for the governance of the organisation. All the new trustees share a passion for the city and the work of BPT and we are very fortunate to have them join the charity.”

Bath Preservation Trust (BPT) has been on a journey of rapid change in recent years and has emerged from the global pandemic as a stronger, more resilient and more necessary organisation. In 2022 BPT developed its Learning and Engagement offering, Museums events, Memberships communications and Marketing strategy and output.

In the same year, BPT launched a “Vision for 2030”, a document outlining “a strategy for the charity it will become” – a statement of its intent and aspiration and how it will achieve the vision. It defines the sustainable social, environmental and economic impacts it will make and by which it will measure its success. The board of trustees are vital in their role of communicating and reinforcing this vision throughout the organisation.
