TGT Meets... Colin Clarke, Managing Director at Roman Fitness Bath

We caught up with Colin Clarke, the Managing Director at Roman Fitness Bath to find out all about why he set up his fitness company, how he came up with the idea and what they offer as a business!

Where is home and why?

I was born in Bath and still love to call it home. Bath is a wonderful place with lots going on and a great fitness scene. The best thing about the city is the community it has. In summer we run our classes at Victoria Park, and in winter in front of the Crescent. It's great to exercise in two of my favourite places.

Describe your business in one sentence…

Roman Fitness Bath is delivered by ex-military personnel who make members look and feel amazing with exciting, unique and highly sociable fitness bootcamp classes.

How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I love the outdoors and I love fitness. What’s better than exercising and watching the sunset surrounded by a positive and friendly group of people?

After numerous sessions in the gym, which came very repetitive, I missed interacting with people and having a team to spur me on. I knew I needed something more social to keep me motivated and help me achieve my fitness goals. At the gym, I didn't speak to people for months! That's why I wanted to create an outdoor fitness company.

What’s been your biggest achievement to date?

Bringing fitness and the community together. It's great to see that our members have made friends for life. Including myself. I love seeing new joiners become part of the family. For those who are new to Bath, it is a great way to connect with like-minded people.

We host regular socials and go for a coffee after the Saturday morning sessions, as well as for a drink after the Tuesday and Thursday evening classes. We also have a dedicated Whatsapp group!

What are your professional goals?

To make fitness affordable for everyone with different membership plans. Our membership starts from only £27 per month for one class a week to £37 per month for unlimited classes. We’re also running a 30-day free trial.

We have three ability groups from beginners to advance. One of my goals is to see members advance through the groups as their fitness improves. I love seeing people's faces when they complete the final set of press-ups!

Can you foresee any fitness trends emerging in 2023/2024?

I believe outdoor fitness will keep growing. Fitness is so much easier and enjoyable when exercising outdoors with friends.

How do you like to spend your time off?

I love spending time with my family and my two dogs. Oscar and Willow. They also keep me fit as they love their early morning walks!
