CLIC Sargent Godfathers Celebrate 15th Anniversary

The CLIC Sargent Godfathers recently kicked off their 15th annual 7s circuit in Frome.

The team’s primary purpose is to raise money and awareness for children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent whilst competing on the UK rugby 7s circuit.

The Godfathers boast a formidable alumni of players including Former England captain and 7s specialist Pat Sanderson, fellow England caps Alex Sanderson and Matt Moore as well as Rugby league caps Kevin Ellis and Barrie John Mather.

To celebrate their 15th anniversary the CLIC Sargent Godfathers have put together an exciting agenda which will see their three teams 'Borgata' (Mens) 'Cugines' (Acadamy) and 'Capos' (Vets) travel all over the UK and Europe competing in the top 7s and 10s event on the circuit.

Garth Hannaford, one of the original founding members said “As well as participating in the rugby the team will be raising awareness and funds for CLIC Sargent. We all understand how much cancer effects people’s lives and we all understand how much good work CLIC Sargent do, in providing support for the young people and their families in their times of need”

Every year the team secures generous sponsorship from local and national companies which enable them to donate the proceeds raised from their merchandise and prize money to CLIC Sargent. So far their support for the charity has managed to raise almost £10,000 for CLIC Sargent.

Kiren Fernandes fundraising manager for CLIC Sargent said “We are delighted to have the support of such a prominent Rugby 7’s side. They have not only raised an incredible amount of money but also a huge amount of awareness.”

“The money they have raised could pay for a family to stay for free at one of our Homes from Homes for almost a year.”

“Our Homes from Home offer families free self-catering accommodation close to the main Regional Children's Cancer Centres. If they are well enough, the child can stay there too. The atmosphere is relaxed and non-clinical, friendly and welcoming and all the family can stay including grandparents and siblings.”
