Heritage Site Group Appoints New Leader
Former mayor, Peter Metcalfe has been announced as the new chair of the City of Bath World Heritage Site.
Mr Metcalfe, a retired designer, previously spent 15 years as a councillor, representing Widcombe.
The former Mayor will begin his 3 year role immediately, taking over from current chair David Beeton.
He said: "I am very excited about this opportunity. I firmly believe the joint accolade of world heritage and our remarkable historic environment provides a framework to maximise the benefits for local communities and create economic growth."
The heritage site is managed by The Steering Group which comprises of representatives from local and national bodies involved with heritage management. The organisations main aim is to preserve the city's WHS status.
Councillor Cherry Beath (Lib-Dem, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said, “The Council and Steering Group are committed to the conservation of our world renowned heritage, and I am delighted that Peter has accepted this challenge. With his extensive knowledge of the city and understanding of our needs, he is the ideal person for the role”.
