REVIEW: Abbey Hotel's New Autumn Menu

If you find yourself worrying where to dine out with a friend, then The Abbey Hotel will be your destination for a good old catch-up and a promised delicious dining experience.

Located in the centre of Bath and situated just a short walk from the famous Pulteney Bridge, you will wine and dine in The Abbey Hotel’s picturesque restaurant, which looks out onto the glorious Georgian architecture.

On entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the lovely waiting staff who showed us to our candle-lit table and were seated amongst the cheerful ambience. At first glance, the new autumn menu had clearly been carefully designed and refreshed to match the modern diner, with starters, mains and desserts to cater for all.

Refreshing and Relaxing Drinks

If you are like me and the first item you view on the menu is a cocktail, then you are in the right place. We decided on a crisp Mojito and a classic Passion Fruit Martini, accompanied by a bottle of Da Lucca Pinto Grigio, Terre Siciliane – my friend and myself were very impressed by the attentive waiting staff who ensured our experience was enjoyable and relaxing.

Wholesome Autumn Dishes

It was now time to feast our eyes on the wide selection of sea, meat and vegetarian dishes, which were beautifully described under each item – and yes, it was hard to make a decision when presented with an array of items such as ‘Halibut’, ‘Beef’ and ‘Cauliflower’.

My friend had chosen the ‘Sea Trout’, which included: ‘Shiitake, pickled daikon pearls, bisque and nori’ – it looked incredible. She was very impressed by the kind accommodation for her nut and shellfish allergy, which was immediately taken care of from the waiter and the chef.

I selected the ‘Buttermilk Chicken,’ as the description sounded too delightful to resist. It included ‘Roasted chicken breast and crispy thigh, sweet potato, brussels sprouts and lardo.’ My first dish of the Autumn season and I was already feeling the autumnal changes that I had been missing after consuming a hearty meal – cosy, warm and relaxed.

Delightful Desserts

Now onto the finale, we both decided on the ‘Blackberry and Apple Pavlova with tonka bean meringue, Chantilly cream and oat crumble’. It was a dessert I would never normally go for, but today I was feeling adventurous and oh wow, I was not disappointed! Our faces gleamed at the site of the pavlova, which was tucked neatly within the meringue and sprinkled elegantly with the oat crumble and cream.
