BANDOOK INDIAN KITCHEN TO OPEN IN BATH’S MILSOM PLACE

Bandook Indian Kitchen, the much-loved street food eatery which first opened its doors in Wapping Wharf, Bristol, in 2017, is opening in Milsom Place this autumn.

To be found within the heart of the world heritage city, the restaurant will offer relaxed all-day dining to both residents and visitors alike and will be within close proximity to many of the city’s most famous destinations, including the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and Bath Rugby Club.

A term which is steeped in subcontinental history – Bandook translates as gun or rifle in the Hindi/Urdu language – and is a word widely adopted by British troops serving during the age of the Raj and one which continues to be used today.

The simple yet sophisticated interiors will take their cue from the Hindustani cafés where the British and Indian army used to gather to eat together, with the restaurant featuring a mix of striking emerald hues – used in the comfy banquette seating and stained-glass panels – accented with simple wooden furniture, statement pendant lights and memorabilia which reflects the era. With a focal-point stainless steel and copper bar, guests can pop in for drinks or dine inside or outside, thanks to a covered all-year-round terrace.

Open seven days a week, Bandook Indian Kitchen will feature an all-encompassing menu, serving familiar Indian street food classics and their own moreish creations from breakfast, through brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, alongside an extensive drinks and cocktail menu.

The kitchen will be overseen by Murali Raj and the menu will incorporate light snacks, small and large plates, with signatures such as Grandma’s curry, samosa chaat and melting Peshwari lamb cutlets being served alongside new additions of naanwiches, dosas, tempting cheese and chilli toasties and much more besides.

Accessible and relaxed, locals and visitors can drop in throughout the day, whether visiting for a leisurely breakfast, working lunch, cocktails with friends, or a three-course dinner.

“I’ve been in the restaurant business all my life and I’ve always wanted to create a street food concept,” says director Moe Rahman. “Now that Bandook Bristol is firmly established, we’re really looking forward to expanding the concept and the next chapter in the beautiful city of Bath.”

A spokesperson for Milsom Place added: “We are thrilled to be joined by Bandook here at Milsom Place. This unique, east-meets-west, all-day dining venue will bring something totally new to the centre of Bath and we're looking forward to introducing it to the city.”
