TGt Meets... Jessica at The Organic Cake Company

We've been speaking with Jessica from The Organic Cake Company since her win of Best Local Cakes at the Bath Good Food Awards this year.

Congratulations on your win! Tell us a little bit about your business?
Thank you! We are an artisan bakery specialising in fresh beautiful cakes, based in Timsbury, Bath. We started from the kitchen table and quickly moved into our own unit on the farm which we converted into a bakery. We mainly supply wholesale traybakes to cafes, delis and restaurants in Bath, Bristol, Wells, Glastonbury and the surrounding areas. We also make delicious celebration and wedding cakes. It is all about the taste of the cakes with us!

What does winning this award mean for you and your company?
It really is the icing on the cake for us (excuse the pun)! We love what we do. It takes a lot of passion and energy to create something from scratch. We have had so much love sent from friends, family, existing customers and potential new customers. It is such a huge boost for the team as well as for business growth.

How are you planning to celebrate your victory?
Well we certainly celebrated the night of the awards! We are planning a big cake party on the farm very soon as we are moving into a new larger unit next door. We are just waiting for them to finish the building works and then the celebration will commence.

How did you get started in the food industry?
I (Jessica) have grown up within a family of restaurateurs/hoteliers, so it is in the blood. My Grandparents started off with a Grocers and built from there all based on their love of food. Rachel went from school straight into catering at the Bath College. She is completely obsessed by food and frequently confesses to dreaming about cakes.

Business is clearly booming, why do you think so many people visit Bath?
Who wouldn't want to walk around such a beautiful city with all its sophistication and Westcountry charm. You could spend a whole day hopping from cafe to restaurant, sampling delicious coffee and cakes from the very best local chefs and food producers. We are absolutely spoilt for choice in the Westcountry when it comes to ingredient suppliers. Everything from the dairy to the flour and local fruit and veg.

Bath is foodie heaven…where else in Bath do you like to eat?
The choice is endless. We love GPT and The Beaufort for superb food and a great night out. The Scallop Shell for the best fish & chips you can buy...even my Grandfather would agree (and that is saying something!)
