Bath's Moorfields pub opens its doors to give city hospitality sector a boost

Bath’s hospitality sector was handed a timely boost last week as The Bath Pub Company opened the doors to its latest pub, The Moorfields in Oldfield Park, following a major refurbishment.

Situated on Third Avenue in Oldfield Park, The Moorfields opened on October 7th promising to be a welcoming and contemporary pub providing good food and drink and a place to relax in for Bath residents from all walks of life.
 
 Speaking to Total Guide to Bath after opening for business, Managing Director of The Bath Pub Company Joe Cussens said:
 
“It’s been a bit of an interesting rollercoaster opening The Moorfields, it was a project we first discussed a few years ago. To refurbish a building this size to the standard required doesn’t come cheap and it took a while to get the financials in place. 
 
“We went back and looked at it again last year we got the green light,” he added. 
 
“We were committed to it by the end of 2019 and signed the lease in March. We were all committed to the project but of course, we then went into lockdown. We finally completed the pub a couple of weeks ago and we’re delighted with the results. 

“The Moorfields was an old school boozer before, but the majority of those living around it no longer wanted that type of offering. Pubs evolve all the time and that’s what we’ve done here – created a contemporary version of what a pub should be.

“Anybody is welcome and the pub is relevant to everyone from every background whether you’re wanting a drink after work or looking to head out for a meal,” he said.
 
He also went on to highlight how The Moorfields has strict social distancing measures in place to make the venue, ‘the safest possible environment to socialise in,’ saying:
 
“We have reduced capacity and less trading hours due to having to close at 10pm. 

“We have all COVID protocols in place and staff are accustomed to that. 
 
“We provide the safest possible environment to socialise in,” he said.
