A-grade Success for Royal High School Bath, GDST A Level Students

The summer is a period of intense anticipation of what lies ahead for school leavers and today, Royal High School Bath, GDST (RHB) A Level students join teenagers around the globe to learn their results and destinations for the next stage of their lives.

This year, an impressive 48% of results secured by Royal High School Bath students were at top AA grades with 10 A level students gaining all their results at this high level. Success came across the board and we are particularly pleased for those 5 students who achieved their places to study Medicine, and 3 who are heading to the University of Oxford to read Geography, English and Medicine. STEM subjects remain popular with Computer Science flourishing and all candidates achieving an A* or A grade.

These results add to the excellent achievements of our IB Diploma Programme students, published in July. The IB is marked out of 45 with girls studying six subjects each of which can be awarded a maximum of seven points with an additional three points for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. Once again, the RHB IB cohort achieved an impressive 36-point average which is significantly above the global average of 30 points with 5 students scoring more than 40 points, above the standard level for a place at the University of Oxford. RHB is the only school in Bath to offer this choice of IB or A Level pathway at Sixth Form.

The spirit and individuality of RHB students is demonstrated perfectly by the range of destinations and variety of the subjects they are going on to study. In September, 5 RHB girls will take up their places at Medical School. These include, Eloisa, who has secured a place at Oxford having achieved 3 A* grades, with an additional A* for her fascinating EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and Jess, who studied the IB diploma and achieved the maximum score of 45 points a feat achieved by only 0.3% of IB students world-wide. Students continue to choose a wide variety of courses including Marine Biology at Exeter, Maths and Statistics and Actuarial Science at LSE, Computer Science at Sheffield and Creative Writing at Queen’s Belfast.

We continue to see students choosing to take up places in international institutions including Sofia who won sponsorship to attend Pembroke College at North Carolina University to study Sports Science.

Mr Hadrian Briggs, Acting Head, said: “It has been an honour to see this cohort develop academically to receive such a fantastic set of results. The envelopes opened by our students today tell the story of their academic curiosity, hard work and dedication during their time at our inspirational Sixth Form. I would also like to congratulate our students for embracing so many wider opportunities to contribute to our school and community which have brought indispensable skills for life. We wish them every success and happiness as they leave Royal High and strike out into the future with the poise and confidence.”
