The Roman Baths introduces £1 tickets for visitors receiving key UK benefits

One of the UK’s most iconic heritage attractions is becoming more accessible, as the Roman Baths introduces a new £1 ticket scheme aimed at supporting visitors on lower incomes.

The initiative, launched by Bath & North East Somerset Council, is designed to ensure that more people can experience the history and atmosphere of this world-renowned site, regardless of financial circumstances.

Making History Accessible to All

Under the new scheme, eligible UK visitors receiving benefits such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit or Employment Support Allowance will be able to visit the Roman Baths for just £1.

Each qualifying adult can also bring up to four children aged between six and 18 for the same reduced price, making it a more affordable day out for families. Children under six will continue to receive free entry, while carers accompanying eligible visitors will also be admitted at no cost.

The initiative forms part of a wider effort to remove barriers to cultural experiences, particularly at a time when many households are navigating ongoing cost of living pressures.

Discover One of the UK’s Most Important Historic Sites

Welcoming around a million visitors each year, the Roman Baths is widely regarded as one of the best-preserved ancient spa sites in the world, and a cornerstone of Bath’s rich heritage.

Visitors can explore the natural thermal spring that first drew people to the city thousands of years ago, walk through the remains of the temple courtyard, and stand beside the striking Great Bath, often atmospheric with rising steam and soft lighting.

The site offers a powerful glimpse into Roman Britain, combining history, architecture and storytelling in one of the country’s most unique settings.

Supporting Local Access to Culture

The introduction of £1 tickets reflects a growing focus on making cultural landmarks more inclusive and accessible to local communities as well as visitors from further afield.

The scheme will be available year-round, across all opening times, with tickets bookable online or by phone, helping to ensure flexibility and ease of access.

Local residents in Bath and North East Somerset will also continue to benefit from free entry through the Discovery Card scheme, reinforcing the council’s commitment to keeping heritage experiences open to those who live nearby.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Bath’s Georgian architecture, the Roman Baths remains a must-visit destination. With this new scheme in place, it is now more accessible than ever, inviting even more people to experience its history and atmosphere.
