Bath Rugby Gear up for Aviva Premiership Final at Twickenham
Bath will be looking to end what has already been a spectacular season in the best way possible, as they prepare to battle Saracens for the Aviva Premiership title at Twickenham on Saturday.
The men from the Rec saw off Leicester with a stunning 47-10 semi-final victory last weekend, to book their place against a Fez Heads team who narrowly defeated Northampton 29-24 to secure their spot in domestic rugby’s showpiece event.
Now, the two teams will battle it out in a cauldron of noise at a packed Twickenham, with the goal of capping their seasons with the ultimate crowning glory.
It really has been a family affair at the Rec, with the club being led from the front by coach Mike Ford and his ever-reliable son, fly-half George.
The duo enjoyed a clean sweep at the recent Premiership Rugby Awards, with Ford senior picking up the Director of Rugby of the Season award and George claiming the player of the year prize, which was fully deserved according to Premiership Rugby director Phil Winstanley.
"George is a worthy recipient of this year's Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Season award,” he said.
"There is no doubt he has spear-headed an extremely talented back-line at Bath Rugby and his control and composure at fly-half show a remarkable maturity for someone so young.”
The Fords were not the only Bath players honoured at the awards, with Anthony Watson, Jonathan Joseph and Francois Louw named in the Aviva Premiership Dream.
Furthermore, eight Bath players were last week called up to Stuart Lancaster’s training squad for the upcoming World Cup, with Ford, Joseph, Watson joined by Sam Burgess, Dave Attwood, Kyle Eastmond, Rob Webber and David Wilson bidding to earn a place at this summer’s tournament on home soil.
While much of the rugby world is shifting its focus toward battling it out for the Webb Ellis Trophy, Bath still have a job to do against a Saracens side who have made a habit of grinding out results when they need them in recent years.
The big game kicks off at 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon, with all the action live on BT Sport.
