Your Total Guide To eating & drinking

Review: No.15 Great Pulteney

We sent our Business Development Manager, Hayley, to No.15 Great Pulteney so she could sample this gorgeous new hotel's afternoon tea, cocktails and an overnight stay! Read on to see how she found it.

A friend and I decided to take a little R&R from our mummy duties which, let’s face it is a 24/7 job! We had been counting down the weeks and days for our stay at No.15 and it did not disappoint.

From the moment you enter the building, No.15 Great Pulteney gives you the feeling of stepping in to your very own wonderland. We were completely mesmerised with the décor, I instantly fell in love with the first of many unique chandeliers, which was called ‘The Lost Earring Chandelier’. The clue is in the name;  women sent the artist all the spares to sets of earrings they had lost over the years and they were turned in to this fabulous chandelier! Take a look for yourself, it's truly stunning!

We were given a very warm welcome from Rumby, the receptionist, who was extremely poilte and friendly. As we were shown to our room, she told us to get settled and once we were ready we could come down to our reserved table and start our Afternoon Tea.

We stayed in room 23, which was on the second floor. Again, I must mention the décor. I honestly don’t know how they do it, but it works! Different styles and themes cleverly blended, some are completely unexpected but work beautifully.

The female toilets… WOW! We stood in complete awe of the stunning room which has one of the largest chandeliers within the building. We found ourselves popping to the toilets just to admire it! Still in wonderland as we entered our room, even the tea and coffee was kept in its very own dolls house! The bathroom was perfect for any women, with a large bath and shower.

We made our way for afternoon tea, still finding new and exciting things to take pictures of, and entered Bar 15. Greeted by a wonderful tall glass of champagne, we waited for our food to arrive. We found ourselves admiring the table of beautifully arranged jewellery in a glass box.

The afternoon tea was excellent. The experts say that you take the first bite with your eyes and after this meal I now know what they mean. What was presented to us was a selection of beautifully crafted cakes and sandwiches which tasted fresh and full of flavour. My dining partner and I had a pot of tea each, which was served in a stunning silver tea set, I half expected a visit from The Mad Hatter himself!

In the evening, we headed back to Bar 15 for some cocktails. The menu was presented as a deck of playing cards so we spent a good thirty minutes going through and picking our cocktail choices; for me it had to be rum based and my for my friend it was going to be gin.

'The Pulteney Muse' consisted of blended Tapatio Blanco tequila, Skipper demerara rum, mixed berries, sage, pomegranate and basil tonic. This was so refreshing the only thing missing was the sun, sea and sand! Presented in three different glasses, you can make it as strong and fruity as your desire, meaning you can mix it to suit all taste buds.

For all you gin lovers out there the 'Fresh and Wild' is a delight. A mouth-watering cocktail mixed Hendrick’s Gin, lillet, basil syrup, cucumber and watermelon tonic. A fine gin with a mouth-watering freshness.

And then it was back to our bedroom. The room was spacious and designed for the sole purpose of comfort and relaxation. We shared a twin room with beds so comfortable I had no trouble drifting off to sleep, and as a parent of two, I’m a pretty light sleeper. Beautifully decorated, these immaculate rooms seemed better suited to visiting royalty than just my friend and I, although the staff did make us feel like royalty throughout our time there.

All good things must come to an end. The morning after what was an amazing night’s sleep we visited Cafe 15 for breakfast. We were presented with a breakfast menu that would satisfy the fussiest of morning diners. Ranging from a Full English to continental, as well as a list of specially-prepared, made-to-order dishes to suit any taste. The service was faultless form start to finish and capped off what was an incredible experience of customer service, luxury and picturesque surroundings.

Overall, all the staff were exceptional and provided a personal service. I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel which is only a short walk away from the stunning attractions of Bath.

Thank you No 15, I will be back again soon!
