REVIEW: Sunday Lunch at Green Park Brasserie

On a drizzly day at the end of January, Total Guide to Bath took a trip to Green Park Brasserie to indulge in a delicious Sunday Lunch!

At midday when we arrived, we were greeted with an open door and a smile. We were shown to a window table, immediately, we were given the option to hang our coats up to dry. The restaurant was moderately busy with a welcoming atmosphere.

Water was brought straight to the table, and once seated we were advised of the menu availability for the day and any supplements. Our table service waiter was introduced to us with drinks orders taken immediately. Throughout our visit, despite how busy the restaurant had become, the staff were attentive. An appetiser of olives arrived at our table prior to our starters, which was a lovely touch. The olives were cold in temperature with just the right balance of salt and bitterness.

For starters we ordered a heart-warming, thick and smooth roasted tomato soup, with sourdough toast, just what was needed on a cold and wet January. We also ordered an incredibly fresh Caesar salad which had a hint of lemon. The chicken was tender and succulent, and the croutons and bacon were perfectly crispy.

By 1.45pm the restaurant was busy and almost full, clearly a popular venue for Sunday dinner.

Our starters were cleared promptly, and our main order was taken. When our main dishes came out, we were delighted to see the kitchen had prepared our meals to perfection, taking notice of the items we requested to be held from our plates. A perfectly portioned roast chicken plate, with a separate serving of gravy. A melt-in-the-mouth Yorkshire pudding, alongside sweet, honey-roasted carrots, and parsnips. The gravy which accompanied the dinner was tasty and smooth.

The sirloin steak ordered was cooked medium rare, just as requested. This came with a side of crispy and salty fries and portobello mushrooms. The steak was juicy and delicious. The restaurant was even able to accommodate a last-minute order of bearnaise sauce to accompany the dish. This was very much appreciated.

Feeling rather full but looking forward to our desserts, we ordered a raspberry sorbet which was bright, fruity, and refreshing, and The Green Park Sunday. This dessert was a cup full of joy with caramelised bananas, and chocolate ice cream with heavenly sweet Chantilly cream on top!

To top off our visit, we were asked if we would like coffee or tea to finish our meal. We felt that Green Park Brasserie had a warm and friendly setting, a restaurant that adults, families, and children would enjoy.

Service was excellent and all staff were lovely, everyone was working hard in a busy restaurant.

I would certainly visit again for a Sunday lunch!
