90 YEARS OF FUN AT THE FORUM

The Forum, an iconic building in Bath and the centrepiece of the region’s cultural and social scene, is set to celebrate its 90th birthday on May 18th with a series of special events.

This landmark venue, known for its distinctive Art Deco architecture and rich history, invites the community to join in a full day of festivities, celebrating nine decades of Bath’s premiere venue offering the very best in cinema, music and entertainment.

Throughout the day, guests will have the unique opportunity to explore areas of the building not usually open to the public via free bookable backstage tours. Families can take part in free drop-in arts and crafts activities and the Forum's café will come alive with an array of free live music and comedy performances, creating a vibrant and entertaining atmosphere for all visitors.

Guests can enjoy ‘Memories of The Forum Through Time’, a specially curated exhibition of old photographs and cherished memories that showcase the building’s vibrant history. First built as a luxurious ‘super-cinema’ in 1934, The Forum has operated as a bingo hall and a dancing school and has evolved into one of the most prominent performance venues in the region, hosting a diverse range of events from concerts and comedy nights to corporate functions and community gatherings.

Bath Philharmonia will be raising the curtains at The Forum’s 90th Birthday Party in the evening this year’s much anticipated Concert for the People of Bath: Sounds of Cinema featuring music by the great composers for the big screen in an orchestral tour through the decades of some of the most popular film soundtracks. Epic music demands an epic performance and the orchestra will be joined by musicians from His Majesty’s Royal Marines School of Music.

From the vast soundscapes of Hans Zimmer’s Inception to the unforgettable themes of John Williams’ Jurassic Park and ET to the dizzying textures of Bernard Hermann’s Vertigo there’s something for everyone in a concert that culminates in a symphonic performance of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue featuring internationally renowned pianist Zeynep Özsuca.

"We are thrilled to mark the 90th birthday of The Forum Building with a day filled with joy, art, and music," said Bryn Williams, General Manager at The Forum. "This celebration is not only about looking back at our remarkable history but also about looking forward to continuing to be a key player in Bath’s cultural life. We invite everyone to join us in this special celebration."
