Enjoy Glastonbury Festival with First Great Western
Getting to and from Glasto can be a total nightmare! But it doesn't have to be that way, we've teamed up with First Great Western to bring you this handy transportation guide.
Plan
Rail tickets are on sale for the complete Glastonbury Festival Period and you don’t have to pay a booking fee!
Over the course of the festival Frist Great Western are putting on additional trains and making special stops at Castle Cary station.
As an added extra, anyone who travels to the festival by public transport will get fantastic discounts with the Green Traveller initiative.
Travelling by Train
If you want cheaper fares, make sure to book your tickets before you travel. All tickets will be checked on arrival and/or departure – so keep them to hand.
All tickets purchased with a railcard will require the railcard to be shown during travel and all passengers with child tickets will be asked to show ID.
Which station is closest to Glastonbury?
Castle Cary is the best station to use if you're heading to Glastonbury. Direct trains will depart from Bristol, Bath and Weymouth.
How do you get to Glastonbury from Castle Cary Station?
Free shuttle buses will run from Castle Cary to Pilton and back from Wednesday the 25th of June until Monday the 30th of June for Glastonbury ticket holders.
Throughout the night when there are no trains there will be no buses. The last shuttle bus from the festival back to Castle Cary Station will be at 17:00 on Monday the 30th June.
What to do if you are travelling by train to Castle Cary
Things like wheelbarrows can't be safely transported across the Castle Cary foot bridge, so try not to over pack.
A queuing system will be in place at busy hours to make sure you get to and from the festival as quickly as possible.
Parking
From Sunday 22nd June through to Tuesday 1st July, there will be no car parking available at Castle Cary station.
Travelling from Bristol Temple Meads
Coaches will run from Bristol Temple Meads on Wednesday the 25th of June until Friday the 27th of June, from 10:00-19:00, with hourly departures.
An hourly service from Glastonbury to Bristol Temple Meads will operate on Sunday 29th June from 12:00-23:00 and on Monday 30th June from 06:00-16:00.
The cost of a coach ticket will be £14 each way.
Getting Home
Usually trains and coaches will be jam-packed right up until mid-afternoon on Monday. So we'd suggest avoiding the crowds and checking out what Glastonbury has to offer.
