Find Out the Odds of a British Triumph in the Eurovision Song Contest

Music fans from all over Europe will be tuning in to watch the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, with the final taking place in Italy on May 14. What do you need to know about it to understand the chances of the UK claiming its sixth victory at this event?

Who Will Be Representing the UK?

Sam Ryder is the UK’s contestant this year, and the social media star will be singing Space Man, which he co-wrote. Sam is from Essex and he recently confirmed that the performance of Lordi when winning Eurovision for Finland in 2006 inspired him to make music.

The current Eurovision 2022 betting from Paddy Power shows that Space Man is sitting in second place in the betting. A price of 6/1 puts Sam behind only Ukraine, and ahead of rivals such as Italy and Sweden. The longest odds can be found on Georgia and Lithuania, at the time of writing. Sam’s place in the second half of the running order and news of his spectacular props have helped boost his chances.

Its success on streaming sites is another reason why Space Man is now one of the favourites to win Eurovision. On Spotify, the UK’s song has been played about four million times, and it’s been watched a couple of million times on YouTube. Sam’s tour promoting the song across Europe has also helped more people to hear it.

Who Are the Main Rivals?

There is little doubt about the main rival to Sam’s chances of giving the UK its first Eurovision win since 1997. The Ukrainian song, which is called Stefania and is performed by Kalush Orchestra, is widely regarded as the hot favourite to come home in first place this year.

The host country also has a widely tipped contender with Brividi, which won the Sanremo Music Festival 2022 and is performed by Mahmood and Blanco. Italy won the event last year for the third time in history and they go straight into this year’s final along with the UK, Spain, France and Germany.

Spain also has a good record in the Eurovision, although both of the country’s victories came in the 1960s. This year, Spain will be represented by Cuban-Spanish singer Chanel and the song SloMo, which is high on the list of favourites. It was chosen at Bendiform Fest and contains a mixture of Spanish and English lyrics.

When and Where Does It Take Place?

Thanks to Italy’s win last year, the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is going to take place in Turin. The two semi-finals are scheduled for May 10 and 12, followed by the final which takes place on May 14 at the PalaOlimpico.

The 40 countries taking part will be narrowed down to 25 by the date of the final. We’ve already seen a preview of the stage design leaked online and it seems that traditional Italian elements will be used to make it a stylish, memorable affair.

The British song has a good chance of winning Eurovision 2022, but you’ll need to tune in to find out if Sam does enough to edge out other leading contenders like the Ukrainian song.
