Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein

About: This is the place most teenagers will want to go first - and it delivers. Built across four floors of a Grade II listed townhouse, the attraction tells the story of Mary Shelley, who wrote Frankenstein in Bath in 1816 aged just 19. Unusual artefacts, bespoke scents, an 8-foot animated Creature and a genuinely unsettling basement combine with two themed escape rooms. The escape rooms are separate bookings and include museum entry. Under 15s must be accompanied by an adult; parents should note the attraction may not be suitable for children under 12.

Active Reality - Free Roam VR

About: Free-roam multiplayer virtual reality inside Bath Sports and Leisure Centre - meaning you and your group actually walk, run, duck and jump around a physical arena while playing in the same virtual world. No wires, no controllers, no staying seated. Sessions include over 30 multiplayer games ranging from zombie shooters to co-operative cooking challenges. Up to six players at once; groups of up to twelve can book consecutive slots.
Minimum age is 9; under-16s must have a parent or guardian in the venue. The leisure centre itself also has eight ten-pin bowling lanes, a trampoline park and a leisure pool with flume - so there's easily a full day here if the group wants it. Booking for Active Reality sessions in advance is strongly recommended.

Tempo Escape Room

About: Bath's highest-rated escape room, housed in a Grade II listed building from 1847 - three minutes' walk from Bath Spa station. The single game, Eternal Life, puts players inside a secret testing centre run by a mysterious organisation that claims to have found the key to immortality. Logic puzzles, surprises and 60 minutes on the clock. The setting is genuinely atmospheric rather than a converted office. Recommended for ages 14 and over; at least one person in the group must be 18 or older. Groups of two to six.

The Bird of Prey Project
Where: The Grain Store, Workshop Lane, Newton St Loe, Bath, BA2 9BT
About: A multi-award-winning conservation charity and visitor attraction, around four miles from Bath city centre and reachable by the X39 or A4 bus from Bath Spa station. Over 20 species of hawks, owls and falcons live here, and the twice-daily flying displays - owls swooping overhead, falcons stooping, kestrels hovering at arm's length - are the kind of thing that lands with teenagers who wouldn't normally choose a wildlife attraction. Private hawk walking and owl encounter experiences can be booked separately for a more hands-on visit. All proceeds go directly to the charity's conservation and rescue work.

Two Tunnels Greenway - Cycling
Where: Route starts from the south side of Bath; hire bikes from Green Park Bike Station or Bath Ebike Hire
About: A flat, traffic-free cycling and walking route following a disused railway line out of Bath into the surrounding countryside. The highlight is the Combe Down Tunnel - at 1,672 metres, the longest cycling tunnel in Britain - which has an interactive light and sound installation running through it. The whole route is around 13 miles return to Midford, though you can turn back at any point. E-bikes are available to hire locally if the distance is a concern. Free to use; bike hire charges apply.

The Roman Baths

About: One of the best-preserved Roman remains in the world, and more interesting in person than it sounds on paper. The site runs below the modern street level - original lead pipes, Roman engineering and 2,000 years of history are visible throughout. Teens who engage with the audio guide tend to come out impressed even if they went in sceptical. Pre-book tickets online; the Baths get busy, particularly in summer.

Victoria Falls Adventure Golf

About: An 18-hole adventure golf course in the heart of Royal Victoria Park, with the Royal Crescent as a backdrop. The course runs over rushing waterways, bridges and waterfalls - including one hole set in the middle of a lake. It takes around an hour to an hour and a half to complete and is open all year round during daylight hours. No booking needed, though it gets busy in summer and at weekends; booking ahead is recommended during school holidays.

Treasure Hunt Bath

About: A pirate-themed self-guided city trail following maps and cryptic clues sent directly to your phone by the game's narrator, Captain Bess. The route covers hidden corners and lesser-known details of Bath alongside the main landmarks, and takes around two to three hours at a relaxed pace. Designed for adults and curious teenagers; no downloading or printing required. A good option for a group who would rather be doing something active than conventional sightseeing.

Thirsty Meeples

About: A board game café with a library of over 800 games, a few doors from Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein - the two make a natural pairing for a full afternoon. Pay a cover charge, choose from the shelves, and staff will sit down and explain the rules of anything unfamiliar. The games span everything from quick card games to longer strategy titles. Food and drinks served throughout - coffee, cocktails, sandwiches and more. Good for a rainy afternoon or an evening when the group wants something slower-paced after a day out.

SouthGate Bath

About: Bath's main shopping centre, right next to Bath Spa station - so you can step off the train and straight into the shops. Urban Outfitters, Hollister, Apple, Zara, H&M, Office and more than 60 other stores, all in Georgian-styled open streets and a central plaza. In summer the plaza has deckchairs and an outdoor big screen. The Vaults restaurant quarter - in the original Brunel railway arches - is good for food afterwards, with Franco Manca, Nando's and Brewdog all in there.

Everyman Cinema Bath

About: Five screens, sofa seating throughout, and food and drinks brought straight to your seat during the film - burgers, pizza, cocktails, the lot. Not a multiplex experience. It's the kind of cinema that makes the trip feel like the actual occasion rather than just the hour before the film. Central Bath location, a short walk from the station.

Bath Ghost Tours

About: An evening walking tour through Bath's haunted history - murder, plague, witch burnings, public executions and genuine paranormal experiments, led by a costumed guide. The tour covers Roman, medieval and Georgian locations across the city, many of which most visitors never reach on a standard day out. It lasts around 105 minutes and involves mostly gentle walking with one short set of steps. Suitable for teenagers and families; recommended as an evening activity. Booking in advance is strongly advised for Friday and Saturday nights.

Sally Lunn's Historic Eating House

About: The oldest house in Bath - the building dates to around 1482 - and home of the original Bath Bun, still baked to a secret recipe every morning. The bun itself is enormous and comes sweet or savoury. It sounds touristy, and it is, but the food is genuinely good and the building is genuinely strange: downstairs there's a kitchen museum showing the original bakery, free to visit if you're eating. A two-minute walk from the Roman Baths. No reservations taken during the day except for the 3.30pm afternoon tea; just turn up.

Thermae Bath Spa

About: The only natural thermal spa in Britain, fed by the same hot springs the Romans used 2,000 years ago. The main draw for older teenagers is the rooftop open-air pool - warm water, panoramic views across the whole city. A two-hour session includes the rooftop pool, the indoor Minerva Bath and the Wellness Suite, with towel and robe provided. Minimum age: 16 for the main New Royal Bath. Ages 12 and over may use the Cross Bath (smaller stand-alone pool across the road) when accompanied by an adult. Book in advance.
