Jarman

A vibrant solo play bringing the life and legacy of artist and filmmaker Derek Jarman to the stage.

“A mighty spirit is about to reawaken. Yours.”

Derek Jarman: film-maker, painter, gardener at Prospect Cottage, activist, writer—his influence remains powerful. This solo play by Mark Farrelly (Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope / Howerd’s End) traces a journey from Dungeness to Soho and into the heart of one of Britain’s most iconoclastic artists.

The play explores Jarman’s taboo-breaking films such as Sebastiane, Jubilee and Caravaggio; pop videos for the Pet Shop Boys; his Dungeness garden; late paintings; and his final film Blue.

Running time: 80 minutes (no interval)
Age recommendation: 14+

Please note: a theatre restoration levy of £1.50 per ticket applies. The venue opens 30 minutes before the start time; late admission may not be possible.
