Sacre Bleu - Things to look out for at Bath Boules

Sacre Bleu! It’s only 2 sleeps until the annual Bath Boules event kicks off on Queens Square, a Bath tradition totally befitting of such a regal address.

What’s all the fuss about and why is Bath ‘ooh la la’ about this event…read on!

What started as a ‘one day informal throw about in the park’ some 20 years ago, has grown in to a colourful charitable 4 days of daytime in to evening programme of various events raising money for Bath based charities. In 2018 this was an incredible £50,364!

Sound’s amazing. What’s the format?

Queen Square will be transformed by the Media Clash team into the Bath Boules home for the weekend, with a champagne and pimms garden, marquees, bars, street food, kid’s entertainments and of course a series of busy Petanque lanes.

Everything kicks off on Thursday with the creative Bath awards and Summer Party, followed by Friday with what is now known as ‘le bunk off’. Skive off work before clocking off time to grab a drink, meet friends, network (this is what you tell the boss) to start the weekend early. With Saturday and Sunday being when the friendly rivalry boules event proper happens. Local businesses and groups enter teams, over 64 entering each day with colleagues, friends and families aand anyone else are invited to come along and support joining in the revelry.

But it’s not just the daytime sport that attracts the crowds. Friday night sees the ‘wildest Friday night party’ a foodie cook-up with Sky TV’s David Flatman hosting (if you’ve ever seen him live, you’ll know that he is worth every penny of your ticket money) and apparently cooking (aka bar-b-queing).
