BANDS PREPARE TO BATTLE FOR TOP SPOT ON RACE DAY
The local musicians and bands who will be playing on race day and taking part in the Bath Half Marathon’s Battle of the Bands competition have been announced.
Folk Lift Truck, Prospect Style, Fortitude, The Odyssey, Batala Bristol, Bath Spa Big Band and KES Soul are the lucky seven chosen to take part in the 2019 event.
For the last four years, local bands have participated in the competition adding to the excitement and entertainment by performing around the course on the day. The winner of the competition is decided by the runners, who vote for the best bands post-race day and the winning band receives a cash prize of £500.
The bands will be stationed around the course* at cheering points, adding to the atmosphere on race day and spurring along the runners.
Race Director, Andrew Taylor said “The bands play an extremely important role in the race as they create a tremendous atmosphere both for the runners and the spectators. We have a real variety of music from samba and jazz to modern, and the feedback shows the runners love the music on the course. While the course is run through the city centre some places on the outskirts of the city can feel a little bit lonely, but with the bands there playing they certainly help to lift the runners’ spirits.”
“We would also like to thank and recognise the local Bath businesses who have kindly lent their support by providing space on their premises and electricity for the bands free of charge. Without their help it would be very difficult for us to make the Battle of the Bands work all the way around the course.”
The Bath Half Marathon 2019 takes place on Sunday 17th March. Registration entries for is now closed, full details can be found online at www.bathhalf.co.uk
